OT: 8KHA+ RAM Question

by BRH » Sat, 05 Jan 2002 00:30:16

Sorry for the OT post, but you guys always seem to be up on the latest
hardware info, and I can't get a straight answer anywhere else.

A number of you have upgraded your rigs to an Epox 8KHA+ motherboard,
and have raved about it.  Most of you have also strongly recommended
using PC2100DDR RAM.  I want to make the upgrade, using an Athlon XP
1800+ CPU, but I would like to know whether it's possible to re-use my
existing RAM with this board.  I currently am using 3-128 Meg PC100
boards on my Abit BH-6, and would like to re-use them, due to budgetary
constraints.

If it's possible, I still might upgrade to the 2100DDR RAM down the
road, but I'd like to know what kind of difference the faster RAM would
really make for this board's overall performance.  (I'd be upgrading

speed over my current system even if I re-use my current RAM.)

Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Unfortunately DDR Ram motherboards (unless fitted with both DDR and SDR Ram
slots - which is rare) can not take SDRAM - so you'd have to get new ram to
use the new mobo

Thanks Doug.  Glad that I asked first...

It makes a huge difference, your going to want to run that chip at 133 mhz
core bus speed, the ddr ram will effectively give you a 266 mhz fsb, and
that is when it shines.
