Looking for a good F1 PC sim

Looking for a good F1 PC sim

I've been out of the sim scene for several years.  Since GP2 was hot.  I'd
like to get a PC sim that runs well on a 1.8 GHz XP machine with no 3D card.
I'd prefer one that has the most internet support in terms of carsets and
new tracks.  I want to be able to race against this year's drivers on this
years tracks.  Or as close as I can get.  It looks like my choices are GP4
and F1RC.  Which one would be better for me?  Also, which controller is the
best bang for the buck?  I have a Thrustmaster T2, but it's analog.
Anything out there that works with a USB interface with an equal feel to the
T2?

Thanks.

Hmm, well, without a 3D card you'll probably have to stick with GP2.

Billy Moore says...

No such animal. You'll have to stick with GP2 unless you get a new video
card.

Cheers,
Rod.

With no 3D card? I have no answer for you.

Looks like the materials costs to build the car are low, but the physics
engine looks hokey!

I believe GP3 had a software rendering mode. That may be your F1 sim
cutoff point.

Thats true. Problem is that iirc most addons are for the hardware-mode
only.

I hear the new F1 2006 from EA is really shaping up to be a good one. System
requirements are much lower now since there are only 6 cars on the track.
BIG FAT FINGER TO FIA!!!!

Well actually, they will simulate all the deliberating amongst all the
players, and since this is such a massively inefficient and drawn out
process, it will actually require massive cpu grunt. So realistic that
sometimes you don't even get to race! :) Or if you do, the crowd, along with
flying bottles, will be very realistically simulated - boooooooooooo, stamp
stamp, stamp. Yes siree, turn those subwoofers on to experience the full
rage of the spectators as they try to stamp the grandstands into the ground!
See what it's like to jump into Ruben's car after Michael exits the pits for
the last time and give him the rear ending he deserved! (not that there's
anything wrong with that - Seinfeld).

   Can't wait! :)
