1. I run in W95 perfectly.

2. Love my T2, it's a wheel pedal combo.  If you don't want to shell out
150+ get a T2.  Mine is plugged into gameport if I am correct.

Before I buy N2...

Hello. About to make the jump and transform cash into cars on my hard
drive. I've lurked around here a few days and still have some questions
(probably answered a hundred times by now, but unknown to me anyways...).

1. Downloaded the demo and played it. Despite the warnings "Will not run in
Win95", it purrs like a kitten on my machine (P-120, overclocked to 133,
16Megs) when launched from a pif. Same with the full version?

2. What's the full scoop on the T2? Manufacturer? Distributers? Is it just
a wheel, or pedals (how many?)? Cost? Is it worth it? Does it hook to a
standard gameport (on sound card)?

3. My machine does not currently sport a 3D card. What kind of frame rate
can I expect (or pray) for? What kind of kick in the ***would I get out
of one? (Numbers, please. Not just "Looks a lot better, man")

Thanks in advance for any info!

It runs in Win95 but I would run it in DOS mode. Slightly faster frame
rate.
I NEVER run DOS games through windoze.

Wheel, pedals and gear shift, no clutch - don't need it <G>. NASCAR
runs Jericho ***s. Made by Thrustmaster. I paid $98 at CompUSA.
Once you use a wheel you will NEVER use a joystick again. Plugs into
a standard game port, either dedicated or through a soundcard. Your
lap times WILL increase.

I use a 2D Mystique with a 220 RAMDAC and 4 meg. Frame rate is ~28 fps
with everything on except horizon and track textures using a 166 MMX. 20
ahead and 4 behind.

With a rendition based card by Intergraph, Canapus or Screamin 3D you
will get 30 fps with almost everything on.

You also need to visit various Web sites to get Daytona, Indy, Texas,
Cal, 2 fantasy tracks, cars and many cool utilities.

Regards,

Harry

% 1. Downloaded the demo and played it. Despite the warnings "Will not run in
% Win95", it purrs like a kitten on my machine (P-120, overclocked to 133,
% 16Megs) when launched from a pif. Same with the full version?

You should be able to run it from within a DOS box in Win95.  However,
your machine is on the borderline when it comes to memory.  Since the
sim itself wants lots of memory and Win95 wants tons of memory, you may
suffer some peformance hits running it in Win95.  Otherwise your machine
matches the memory requirement for the program and exceeds it with the
CPU.  All things aside, you will get better performance in a pure DOS
environment.

% 2. What's the full scoop on the T2? Manufacturer? Distributers? Is it just
% a wheel, or pedals (how many?)? Cost? Is it worth it? Does it hook to a
% standard gameport (on sound card)?

The T2 is a Steering Wheel and pedals combination.  The Wheel comes with
a shifter (up/down) and 2 buttons on the "dash".  The pedals are Gas &
Brake.  The unit plugs into a standard gameport on your soundcard.  It
is manufactured by ThrustMaster (http://www.racesimcentral.net/).  In the
states you should be able to find the T2 at most large computer and or
electronic stores/chains (Best Buy, ComputerCity).  I've seen the price
as low as $89.00 and as high as $149.00, so shop around or wait for a
special.  Thrustmaster also makes a wheel without pedals, but has levers
on the back of the wheel for gas/brake (ala Formula 1 car's wheels).
This unit sells for less.  There are other wheel/pedal manufacturers out
there.  A few are cheaper (and "cheaper" is the key word), while others
are alot more expensive (Extreme Competition Controls at
http://www.racesimcentral.net/
at http://www.racesimcentral.net/~thomas).  Unless you want to spend big bucks for a
"super quality" wheel/pedal unit, the Thrustmaster units are the way to
go.  And yes it is worth it.  If you really want to emerse yourself in
the sim, you will need a wheel and pedal unit.

% 3. My machine does not currently sport a 3D card. What kind of frame rate
% can I expect (or pray) for? What kind of kick in the ***would I get out
% of one? (Numbers, please. Not just "Looks a lot better, man")

If you get a Rendition (Verite chip based) 3D card you should be able to
get close to 30 fps with all detail on.  This is if you are not in heavy
traffic or at certain tracks.  There are a couple of tracks where things
are a little bit slower.  But you will receive a much improved frame
rate, which translates to a much more controllable car.
