Hi, y'all.

Just to let you know -- the N2 Fantasy Tracks will be available for
download on the Sierra web site.  Those of you who have visited the
NASCAR 2 area of the site will notice the new graphic design that we
recently completed of the content.  We hope you like it.

FYI -- I've been watching the discussion on here, and I'm pleased that
the response to Bull Run and Red Rock is positive.  The tracks were
created here at Papyrus for other products, and they will also be
included in the upcoming Grand National Series Expansion Pack.  Those
of you who enjoyed the graphics at Bull Run and Red Rock, expect more
of the same from GNSEP.

The archive that is being posted on our NASCAR 2 site contains newer
versions of the tracks than the copies included on the magazine cover
disks which are currently being posted at other sites.  There have
been modifications made to both tracks that will make this download
worth it.  The final versions of these tracks will ship with GNSEP.

If you experience problems with the download link, keep checking back.
We're still coordinating across the country to Sierra to get
everything in synch between the FTP server and our Web stuff.

Thanks,
Tony Johns

Nice to know you guys at Papy are making add-ons and such for N2, but
what about ICR2?  There are some new tracks and features we would like
to see!

Please don't tell me that you have " fixed " the fantasy tracks to make the
driving model more realistic.   I can tell these tracks are based on a
fantasy because I can actually drive these road courses without playing ping
pong ball with the walls and other cars, and auto breaks are a thing of the
past.  Make them as pretty as a Rendition videoed, 200mhz processor can
stand, but please don't mess with the driveability of these tracks.

Thanks in advance,

Tony

They have improved the framerate slowdown (at least at RedRock).  There
isn't that dreaded jerky/slowdown coming around the front straight.
But, there seems to have been some changes in the handling on the track.
The rearend is harder to keep under me, but I haven't messed with the
setup yet.  I am pretty sure that this can be corrected in the garage.

Good work Papyrus.  Please apply the same frame rate improvements to the
few original N2 tracks that suffer (e.g., Martinsville).

I believe the only changes made were drawing order and a couple of
text file values (not grip).

I think so, I was getting it under control last night (on the latest
version from Sierra's site). My best race at Red Rock so far:

Best lap: 52.565
Avg. lap: 54.393
Top Speed: 228 mph

So does this mean there will be more fantasy tracks on the expansion
pack? I certianly hope so, I love the new tracks - they have
revitalized my interest in Nascar2. I certainly appreciate your work
in providing the two fantasy tracks for download.

Very interesting. Can you be specific about the changes/improvements?

BTW, I forgot to mention this is in Arcade mode, which I hear makes
quite a difference. Sorry I forgot to mention it at first.

<snipped!>

Thank you very much Sir! You just made my day... After reading your post
yesterday i strapped in and hammered around the "new" (i.e. Sierra ver.)
Red Rock track in search of time.... only to find none.

My best to date is a: 57,750  with the new track... (is it just me or is it
different to drive (i.e. harder to get a good time??)
That was set in realistic mode.

At Bull Run however things are getting better!

My best so far is a 1:43,976 .....
Also set in realistic mode... (come to think of it... I've NEVER tried
arcade mode!!! :))

Any better ??

I'm one of those people who always hated ICR2 and Nascar because there
was so little downforce (realistic yes, but to me not fun) so I was
very happy to get the arcade mode in Nascar2. I guess my favourite
type of racer is "arcade but with a realistic driving feel" so N2
arcade mode is perfect for me.

God Bless you Joe. I found somebody outside my band of groupies that agree's
with us. I try to stress this to others who have tried Nascar 2 in the past
and didn't like it in realistic mode to again retry it with arcade mode set.
The only problem with that is Papy has the arcade mode AI very uneven so one
still needs to fool around with settings.

If you haven't messed with the skills settings and blaps and rels (along with
putting the pit speed at 100+mph) I urge doing so. You can tweek Nascar 2 a
lot better to fit the Arcade mode perfectly and IMO make the game more
realistic than realistic. We have some outstanding races this way, I'm talking
races where your side by side lap after lap without worry to much of losing it
and ending up with several players finishing within 1 sec. This is very
exciting racing to me that wasn't possible with AVERAGE JOE racers before
arcade mode was supported on the network, realistic mode looked like
Alcholholics Anonymous 500 on many of the tracks. :) PLUS we arcaders get a
better sensation of speed since were buzzing along much faster as well, an
added bonus that the slow moving realistic bunch misses out on. Which reminds
me to thank Charlie Heath (for listening) of Papy and all of Papy for that
matter for releasing what I believe is the best game I have ever played, to me
that is saying a lot.

Motoracer is another good example of close enough realistic controllability
with some arcade fun added in.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the re-release of ICR2 will have an arcade
mode equivelant and network support. This would be a treat for my friends as
were getting more an more into the road courses.
