Can anyone give me an estimate of the framerate for N2 running
on a P133 without Rendition? I have ICR2, and have gotten used
to the following graphics trade-offs for speed:
Walls off
Grass off
Pavement off
Hotlapping a track like Laguna on my own, the framerate fluctuates
between 26 and 30. I also own N1 and patched some tracks over.
N1 Watkins Glen also runs at about 27-30 with these settings.
Running this track in N1, I get about 22fps, using the old
"automatic paint/skids" trick to estimate frame rate. My next
experiment was to convert over N2 Watkins Glen to ICR2. The
frame rate was then about 22-24 everywhere except the front straight
where it dipped below 20. This is in ICR2. No doubt the extra
detail and sky hurt the performance. Finally I tried the N2 demo
that came on the N1 CD-ROM. Is this an unfinished version of N2,
because I couldn't set the graphics detail to the same level as
I prefer (ie. no skids/paint) and couldn't turn the clouds off
to have a fair comparison. It's hard to visually gauge frame
rates on my computer, because it is a notebook and the screen
blurs and masks slower frame rates. What frame rate can I expect
from N2 in the commercial version?
The N2-ICR2 conversion is a nice utility. I would consider
purchasing it to go along with N2. However, I noticed some
graphics bugs on my patched Watkins Glen. The textures on
the red bridge before the S/F "popped" in at the last moment.
Also, the guardrail textures consistently drew in only half
way to the horizon, like watching the track through a "texture
clipping plane". Is this because I patched a demo file, or is
this bug also present for some people when patching the real N2?
Is the 2-4fps perceived frame rate drop when running a N2 track
in ICR2 present for all tracks?
Thanks for any answers
