I have a pretty cheap sound card and I wonder if this can affect frame rate
while playing GPL.
When I increase the number of sounds, the frame rate lowers dramatically.

System: P200MMX
Diamond monster 1
16 bit sound card

That's not so much a product of your particular sound card. Its widely
acknowledged that the number of sounds has an effect on frame rate
regardless of sound card - so reduce it if yr struggling......

It will definitely lower performance. PCI soundcards are somewhat less
demanding than ISA cards. Don't really know why, but I see an increase of
about 25% in frame rates with the SB PCI-128 and my old AWE card. Maybe
someone can explain it, must have something to do with the faster PCI bus
speeds over the ISA speed.
