I was wondering if anyone can tell me if you have had one of the peddle
springs break.  Is there a better way of fixing it instead of having to
buy the kit from Thrustmaster? I would appreciate any response.

I broke the spring in my T1's gas pedal a couple months ago,
fortunately at the start of a two-week break in my IGN season.

I went to www.thrustmaster.com, left them a note in their 'repairs and
service' page, and got an e-mail the next Monday saying new springs
were on their way to me.

Two days later not one but two replacement springs were in my mailbox.
An hour of repairs was all that was necessary and I was back on the
track.  No money exchanged hands, and the springs came with
replacement instructions.

I sent Thrustmaster a very happy thank-you via e-mail, and now I'll
take the opportunity to do so in the newsgroup.  They're the best!

Been there, done that.  I don't know of a better way than contacting the
manufacturer...  The kit is free from T-master, call them about it.  You'll
get it in about a week.  The instructions included are a little confusing, but
most people can probably get through it. :)

I have the T1 and had the springs go once.  Thrustmaster should send you
a kit for free (they did for me and others).  This is a known flaw in
their design.  Since I put a wooden block behind the pedals on the "back
porch" I haven't had a spring go bad.  The trick is to limit the travel
of the pedals.  This way the springs will last longer.  It hasn't
decreased the response.  As it is I am always pressing harder cuz I want
more speed, but once the pedal is to the metal, that's all there is.

I have had the peddle springs break several times on my T1.  Thrustmaster
has sent new ones free of charge.  I have taken their advice and glued a
block of wood under the peddles.  This will not allow them to be fully
depressed, thus less stress placed on the springs.  This also creates a
quicker action and more controll.

No need to buy anything.  Just give Thrustmaster a call (or e-mail)
and tell them that you have broken spring.  They will mail you one
free.  (At least that is what they did for me)

Also, consider limiting the travel of the pedals by putting a block
on the 'porch'.  This will make it much less likely that you will break
any more springs.  I limited mine to about half the original travel and
I think it feels better too.

Been there, done that, too.  But instructions????  Didn't get any, but
from the sounds of it, probably would have made it harder (g).  If you
can't wait for the springs to come from TM, you have 2 options.  1.  only
race at michigan.  That's what another guy from Vancouver is doing (how's
it going Josh?)  or 2.  get a piece of string or shoelace, and a couple
of *** bands (about.5-1 cm wide, about 1/4 inch, i think).  Loop the
lace through one of holes in the pedal, and tie it through the elastics,
then hook the other end of the elastics around the corner of the base
unit.  Looks kinda messy, but works in a pinch.

Regarding the wood block TM mentions.....How thick, and how are you guys
mounting it to the pedal unit???

I have had three springs break in 16 months of use ... and I use my T1
about three times a week which equates to about 6 hours a week.   It
is annoying when they break but I think it is a small price to pay for
the realism.   I have noticed that it is only my throttle pedal spring
that breaks.    The brake does not get used that much in NASCAR and
rarely to the floor.

Cheers,

Craig.

I agree.....Thrustmaster has *fantastic* customer support.
Other companies should follow their example.  I think Thrustmaster and
Tronix should get industry awards for customer service.  These
newsgroups will continue to be relatively devoid of company reps,
until we can convince the industry that it's important...

Good question.  I'd think you have to epoxy the sucker to the base unit
flange...

About your 'quick fix', didn't someont have to do that last year?(NRL or PRO95)
:)

I've been following this thread, even though I have a new T2. When
someone mentioned the idea of putting a block in back of their T1
pedal unit, I thought it might serve me well too with a T2. It did-
not that I was worried about the springs going, but I was a little
tired of pedalling so far , especially on the road courses.

In case the T1 and T2 are similar, mayber this will help: I just used
a 1.5 foot piece of standard 2x4 I found in the shed, laid it down
flat on the floor against the wall, then put my T2 against it, and
frankly, it made the whole pedal unit far more stable on the floor, no
more sliding around or anything. And maybe I'll be saving myself some
springs?

Sounds like you have the same problem I have.  Even when I have the gas
to the floor, I press even harder looking for more speed.  All it gives
me back is a sore leg after 4 hours of turning left.  That's where the
block of wood has helped lessen the strain on the spring.  I'm still
probably in for a spring failure soon though, but it's been awhile since
I've had to pull behind the wall to fix my "throttle linkage".
