Allow Me to Ask Once Again -- What is the BEST Wheel/Pedal Set-Up Available ???

by pa.. » Sun, 05 Dec 1999 04:00:00

Please excuse repeating the inquiry, but it seems someone has chosen
to cancel the original question, and the original thread has been dawn
off-topic by a malcontent ...

I need to purchase a couple of Racing Simulation Wheel/Pedal set-ups
for entertainment of guests in our hospitality areas at races. The
full "cockpit" types are not feasible at the moment, so I am looking
more for a more compact and easily packed and transported solution.

Any and all opinions, ideas, thoughts, reviews, etc. would be greatly
appreciated. Cost is not the most important issue. We need them to be
durable, reliable, attractive, and as realistic as possible given the
above mentioned constraints.

I do want to thank those that gave their opinions in the previous
thread, and I hope this one can remain on-topic and flame-free ...

Thanks,

Allan

I thought Hyperstimulator was a good suggestion, so I didn't say anything
before.
Try ECCI, quite pricey, but tough as nails and very realistic.

Gotta agree with that assessment. If price isn't the main concern, you
won't find a better quality wheel/pedal set than those made by ECCI.

If cost is not a factor, the following choices are not wrong:

No force feedback - Hyperstimulator
Force feedback - Logitech

Unfortunately (I get it that you're trying to impress people)
I think omitting force feedback would be a serious mistake, and there
is no high-end quality force feedback wheel yet.

I have no knowledge of the HyperSimulater product, but everyone tells me the
handmade Thomas Super Wheel is the Rolls Royce of the industry.  Something
you might be interested in their product is the high-quality pots and
potentialmeters (sp?)  Both are easily replaceable, with Thomas keeping them
in stock.  They are heavy enough to withstand abuse and not need to be
clamped.   They have a website but I do not know the addy off-hand.  They
sponsor several on and off-line leagues, so it should be easy to find.

If money is not a big issue, no doubt go with thomas wheels! It would hold
up to traffic much better than the plastic versions. COst you about 3-400
each but would last you a lifetime.

If want a ECCI version for 1000+, then its built like a battleship (steel
housing)

I have an ECCI CDS4000 Monza F1.. 1450 dollars + in cost.. but well worth
it.. only thing better would be a hypersim with this setup.

While the TSW is a fine unit,I think you'll find that the ECCI would actually have to be considered a higher quality wheel and pedal combination. Of course as in anything, quality has a price attached. I have owned an ECCI for over 3 years now and never have regreted making that choice. Below is the url.

Yeah. Especially if you don't need Force Feedback or
USB. Opps here we go again :-)

Before Greg, pops up yet again <g>, the ECCI does not have FF support (the
USB factor is presumably of no special interest for your needs), but it is
probably the most rugged of the available retail models. This may be
important to you if you are going to have lots of people using it. It's
size and weight may mean that it's not the most transportable of options
though - much bigger than, say, a TSW and the wheel/pedals combo weighs in
at around 60lbs.

Cheers,
Richard

Perhaps you need someone to "run" the sim section ?
