Turned on to Eurosport last night, and the American LeMans series was on.
They were on a track I hadn't seen before, but within a few corners I'd
guessed it was Mosport in Canada. I've only ever seen the track in GPL,
but I recognised it straight away. Much more run-off now, though, and the
curbs are much flatter.

A number of the changes you must have seen were just done during the lull
between last season and this one, including blending the pit exit all the way
through turn one into the short straight, the turn two runoff area no longer
ends in a swamp, some re-grading of surrounding hills to allow better sight
lines for drivers & spectators and runoff room, and I think Moss corner was
tinkered with. Check out http://www.mosport.com/roadhome.htm and click on the
"Photos" button - there are a number of shots of the work in progress.

is it still the same track?
with the downhill left an uphill right before the "straight"...do they still
have the hill at the end of the straight?

Pretty much.  I was surprised how much it looked like 1967.  The
commentator (speaking of the rain) referred to the fact that much of
the pavement dates back to the '60s and was particularly slippery
compared to today's surfaces.  (And some guys want rain in GPL...
Mosport is slippery enough dry, thank you. :)

nothing to be frightened of, and no limit, any fool could get into
a motor car and racing would not exist as a sport." -- Jim Clark

It's pretty similar. At one point one of the cars made a pass on another
at the end of the back straight. He was really moving fast as he went
round the outside over the crest into that fast right hander. Its a bit
we all know well from GPL as it's so easy to lock up going over the
crest.

Looked really scary:-) I'd like to see F1 or CART give it a go.

Certainly adds to the enjoyment of watching when you are so familiar withthe
track already :O)
