F12001 questions

I was out at Best Buy today picking up a Logitech Wingman Force wheel for my
niece's birthday, and picked up a copy of F12001.
First off , installation gave me woes - I first tried to install off my
Plextor cd burner drive, installation appeared to go fine but when I tried
to launch the game I got an error message, that " scsi host adapter" could
not be found, and my computer would lock up requiring a reboot. So, I
uninstalled it and re-installed it in my other plain vanilla cd rom drive,
and it worked fine. I assume this has something to do with the copy
protection ?
I have been running Germany in testing mode, and cannot seem to get the
steering very smooth, especially at higher speeds. It seems to be real
twitch around center, like there is  a deadzone and when I get past that the
car jerks in whatever direction I am turning in. I have played both with the
speed sensitivity setting and the wheel lock. I am using a stock TSW2 (
single axis). Any advice on smoothing the steering out would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Don Burnette

Set your x axis sensitivity to 10% or less. Set the speed sensitivity to 75%
or higher (to start with and then work your way down if needed). I sent you
a Hockenheim setup for the Ferrari.

I don't have a dead zone problem, but the above settings with my Ferrari FF
wheel give me stable steering.

Don,

Remember that, regardless of where you set the deadzone, DirectX sets an
automatic one of 5%.  Download DXDeadzone or DXTweak and use one of those to
set that 5% to 0% or whatever.  This made a *world* of difference to my own
ability to place the car accurately in F1 2001.

See http://www.sportplanet.com/hg/forums/ (EA Sports F1 forum) and do a
search on "deadzone" to see all the others who had this problem and fixed
it.

best,
David K

Which website has a lot of setups - BHM?  Also, are the setups wildly different
between FF and non-FF wheels?

In F1RC and F12001, I love Ian Bell's setups. He sets up a car very similiar
to the way I do, only he's better at it. All I have to do is tweak them a
little to fit me. You can get some of them at Relay.
http://f12001.relaygames.com/

Since F12001 doesn't have FF yet, I just set the auto centering spring to
50% and the setups feel good.

Uh oh...I'm NO good at tweaking setups...  But thanks for the link.

I should have mentioned - I don't have FF, so maybe I can use 'as is'...

You might only want to give yourself a little more/less wing, or adjust the
steering lock.

I don't see why not. My Ferrari wheel with no FF on feels a lot like my old
T2.

Can't speak for the new F1 sims, but I agree about Ian Bell's setups for
F1CS2k,  very driveable and fast.

I've tried to get some F1-2001 setups at the above link (I see the
setups for almost all circuits). There's a check-box for each setup,
but I can't figure out how to download the files.

There's a small, blue icon (looks like a floppy disk) in the
upper-right corner of each page. After selecting the setups I want,
clicking on that icon, nothing happens.

I used IE-5.5sp2 to try and get them. Did I miss something obvious,
or perhaps I have an incorrect IE/5 setting? That blue-icon worked on
other pages (for DL'ing the editor, tracks, etc.).

 Thanks, Matt

p.s. I'd just make my own setups, but the dang interface is rough to
work with.

That's the way to download them. Don't know why it isn't working for you. I
can send you the setups in an e-mail if you'd like.

I went to f1relay..found Ian's setup for silverstone and checked the box.
Then like you I clicked on the disc icon.  Another window came up that
showed two files...a zip of the setup or a self extracting file..  Just
click on either of those and the setup should dload.  I'm using IE 6.0 but
5.5 should work the same....good luck(I chose only one setup at a time...I
guess try that)

Thanks all for the tips. Everything else works, (check-boxes,
sort-buttons, etc.) but that little blue icon still won't function.
Under IE-5.5 "properties", the icon is described as: Save-20x20.gif

I'm definitely hitting the save-icon file, but for some reason it is
not "active" with my browser. I have the same problem at Blackhole
Motorsports; there, nothing works.

I must be some missing Java or Active-desktop setting, but everything
is on/enabled. This is a fresh install of IE/5.5, but it always
retains pervious security settings on an update too.

It was nice when web-coders just used regular (URL) links to get
stuff. Everything gets fancy.. <g>.
