new to F12001, got some questions

by j a m e » Thu, 01 Nov 2001 01:32:56

hi there.  i've picked up F12001, and it's a nice sweet game.  however, i'm
used to racing NASCAR, specifically NASCAR 2000 (great game), which is far
and away less complicated than F12001.... and there's something about F12001
that i don't understand and don't even know how to put a name to it.

bear in mind i haven't played it too much and i'm new to F1 games, so excuse
my ignornace.

when i play, it's almost as if the race is controlling itself.  like, if i
take my hands off the wheel or gas, the car takes itself around the track,
gassing and braking as necessary.  what is this?  what's it called?  is it
something that can be turned off?  i've checked through the manual and can't
seem to find any mention of it, but like i said, i have no idea what it's
even called so i don't know what to look for.

confused.

From the main menu go into the Difficulty settings (it's some completely
useless icon that looks sort of like a bar graph, so you might have to hold
your mouse over each icon to get a popup description of the icon). In there
you can turn off "steering assistance", "braking point assistance", etc. If
you turn them all off, you will then have to drive the car yourself.

Page 18-19 in the manual (in the US/Canadian version anyway).

However, some might say that the original settings were closer to the
reality of modern F1 <g>
