F1rs fps??

Man I dont know, I have done all the little fixes like sound reduction.
turn off sky, no replays, set virtual memory etc. the thing is strange at
times I get great fps no chop and others for no apparent reason that dang
choppy first lap is back with nothing changed? I am on a Dell 233PII with a
STB Velocity card and 32MB Sdram. If this isn't enough then what is? Do I
need to get another 32MB of ram? I cant figure it out I even reboot to be
sure all is clear and sometimes fine others choppy. Its starting to get
real irritating on the other hand I just started driving with all aids off
and wow I should have started this way as I was fooled into thinking I was
getting pretty fast hehe. Anyway any suggestions would be much appreciated,
have any of you with similar machines been experiencing this too? Aloha,
Mike

This 'choppy first lap' problem seens to affect some people and not others.
I have a PII300 with 128mb and have no problems. Until recently I had a K6
233 with 64mb and had no problems there either!
Where does that leave us?

The first lap problem is memory releated. Turn off replays and it should
improve. I have noticed that if damage is turned on and you crash on the
first bend, you get major slowdown.

My sstem is P166, 80mb RAM, Orchid Righteus 3Dfx etc.

I suggest getting a 3Dfx card for max performance, D3D sucks.

Seems like a min of 64 meg Ram!

I have a PII 266 w/ 64 MB ram and also experience the choppiness. I think
the problem is more apparent in the DirectX version of the game than the
3dfx flavor.

lap frame jumping , but I think it is a result of the minimal amount of ram
i'm using after the first lap it hoon's along.

Hi, I have a 233MMX PII with32MB and STB Velocity AGP  up till today I had
to turn off sky and replay plus do the sound reduction deal. But since I
added 32MB more Sdram I can leave it all on so far no chop in first lap of
races.

I was running a K6 233 o/c to 250mhz with 32meg sdram, i fitted 64meg of
edo which wouldnt run at 83meg bus (himem errors) so i clocked it at
3.5x75 262mhz and any slow downs i did have have all gone (still not
running sky, my choice). I dont think the 262mhz did the trick but the
ram sure did, before the 64meg at game end when returning to w95 desktop
the h/d cach would empty out for a few secs, dont get that at all now.

Yes- you just reminded me that the HD grinding at the end /exit of game is
now gone too! Also races load faster than the song thats played for each
region/track. I used to also have a problem with the desk-top not returning
to my 800x600 res after exiting the game but now all is fine., Mike

I have a 64 meg system and I get the HD accessing at the start of
all races. Of course, the simple fix is to let the 1st lap run and then
restart. From memory (in my head :))) this fixes it. I need to reinstall
Win 95 though to clean up old graphic drivers so maybe thats my problem
- performance is a bit iffy at the moment with i233mmx and Viper 330.
