Does this prog work with lowly dx2's like mine, or just the pentiums??  How
exactly does it speed up your computer??

It makes your S3-display card faster. For example Diamond Stealth 64
etc.

If you don't have one, you don't need the software.

Works on 486s, I should think. What's relevant for S3SPDUP is the
video card, not the processor.

It speeds up the video card, provided the card is based on a S3
chipset. No idea what it does exactly, but I think that video signals
for certain modes are just being processed differently from the way
the card would choose on its own.
The author says he developed the driver for S3 928 chipset based
cards, and that he doesn't know about newer S3 chips. I can attest it
works great for Trio 64 cards (GP2 video speed 356 instead of 282 on a
P100 - Monaco in full detail at 15fps (VGA)).
Note that SVGA speed (in GP2 - I have no data on Nascar, ICR2 or other
sims) is almost unaffected by this, however.
Since S3SPDUP is free, why don't you just download it and check it
out? :)

While you're at it, also download S3VBE20 by the same author. This
utility provides S3 cards with version 2.0 vesa bios extensions, which
might come handy with other games in the near future.
