Why no AA in GPL demo 3dfx???

by Aaron Stanle » Fri, 10 Apr 1998 04:00:00

Papy, Sierra, whomever:

I just tried the GPL demo...please excuse me if this subject has
already been covered in this newsgroup. Why is there no anti-alias in
the 3dfx mode??  Rendition does it fine (V2100) in 800x600 yet my 3dfx
(voodoo2) looks like ***(jagged lines). We all know the VooDoo/V2 has
no problems with Antialiasing yet it is not available. Is this just
because the demo is not complete in this regard, is it a Voodoo2 driver
problem, or is this a "lets make the Rendition look better" type thing?
I don't want to start any flame wars here, but if your game is going to
support 3dfx/V2 graphics, why not make full use of the features of the
3dfx?
Just wondering, cause I'd like to see the game in 3dfx form with
anti-aliasing because I know the card supports it.
The game itself is interesting(!) the car seems very hard to control
in the turns without spinning out and the physics are the best yet. I
hope Nascar3 has physics like this but I hope anti-aliasing in 3dfx will
be supported in future releases.

These are my opinions, not my employers...(they make me say this)

Aaron,
You have to bear in mind that this "demo" has been put together for us from
the "engine" that was at this stage of development about 6 to 8 months ago.

So what you are using is nowhere near optimised.
