GPL - doesn't always update player.ini

by Jim » Thu, 15 Feb 2001 13:43:20

Doh, I've found twice now that having set a new fast lap time, GPL didn't
write it to player.ini.

Both times I was lapping in training mode, once at Rouen in the Lotus and
once (just now) at Zandvoort in the Ferrari. Having driven a dozen or so
laps, I used Escape-Enter to quit to the replay screen, where I could see my
new fast time highlighted in red. I then snipped the fast lap out of the
replay and saved it for a rainy day, then quit GPL using the red buttons all
the way.

I paid a visit to GPL Rank to upload my new lap times and found that
although my times for Silverstone and Monaco uploaded fine, those at Rouen
and Zandy didn't. Turned out that they were just not recorded in the
player.ini. I checked the replays and I *know* I'm not mistaken about the
times - they just didn't get saved.

It's not like I set any world records - my GPL Rank is in three figures -
but I'm never going to be able to lower it at this rate! Anyone got a
solution?

TIA,
Jim

GPL - doesn't always update player.ini

I've noticed the same thing happen to me once when exiting a race. No
idea why.

But now I try to wait a few seconds until the replay seems to have
been saved, then exit somewhat slower than I used to do, not
Esc-Enter, Esc-Enter etc very fast.  I have no explanation for why
this should work, just a feeling GPL tries to do too many things in
too short time.

I use WinME.

Cheers,

I had this happen once too, a month or so ago. I clocked a new Rouen PB (at
2:02.high if memory serves), which never saved itself into the player.ini.

When it happens one time out of what must be hundreds, it can't be called a
major problem, though.
