Gpl Player.ini problem

Gpl Player.ini problem

by Doug Wille » Sat, 14 Jun 2003 15:25:06

I am just getting back into GPL. I uninstalled the game about a year ago and
just re-installed today. My problem is that I cannot enter my original
player name into the game. It gives me a message saying "unable to save
player information". I could create a new player name but I want to keep my
original GPL rank (-2.878). Any suggestions?

If you backed up & restored your gpl folder (or just your player.ini) check
that it's not set to read-only. If you copied it from a CD it probably will
be.

If you have done a fresh install & just want to keep your PB's, then I'm
pretty sure the player.ini is all you need. Just create a driver profile,
exit gpl & replace your newly created player.ini with the old one. There are
a few other settings that you may want to keep from the new one, but nothing
vital.

Did you reinstall GPL from a cdrom backup?  If so your files are probably
all set to 'read only'

A quick reminder for everyone thinking about backing up programs,  Always
use a compression program like Winzip or Winrar to preserve the program
without getting the read only bit set.  Zip up the whole GPL folder, then
back it up onto a cdrom.

Or, you can just go to the root folder of whatever it is (in this case GPL)
right click on it and then go to properties and then if you uncheck "read
only", it will give you the option of "Apply changes to this folder,
subfolders and files". and then BAM! you're all good!
But that's in XP.. I don't know about any other version..

And also,

I thought the GPL rank page allowed you to create an INI file using all the
times that went into your rank in the first place.  I could be wrong, but it
might be worth checking.
