SIERRA ACKNOWLEDGED THE PATCH!!!

by David Otternes » Sat, 29 Jun 1996 04:00:00

Here is a few lines from my ongoing conversation with Sierra....
DO>>DO>C'mon, *PLEASE* release the IndyCar II patch... We know that
DO>>DO>you've been working on it for awhile now and we know that it is
DO>>DO>complete... I was kind of leery when Sierra took over Papyrus,
DO>>DO>but then I started thinking "Aww, they aren't too bad."  Please
DO>>DO>don't make me dislike you... When you took them over it was
DO>>DO>supposed to be a good thing, don't make it a bad thing please.
DO>>DO>Please put the patch on the website or e-mail it to me!
DO>>
DO>>DO>Thanks...
DO>>
DO>>Sorry but the patch for Indycar 2 has not been released.
DO>>
DO>>Thanks for your patience.
DO>>Jason/SierraTech
DO>>

DO>Obviously... Any idea when it *WILL* be released?!?!  I've been checking the
DO>web page (Papyrus, not Sierra) about every 4 or 5 hours... I'm jumpin out of
DO>my pants waiting for this patch...

DO>Thanks...

ST>Sorry, I don't have a time line for the patch.  It should be soon, but
ST>I can't
ST>be more specific in case of an unexpected setback.

ST>Bob /Sierra Tech
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well, at least now they admit that the patch DOES in fact exist... Question
is, how soon is SOON???

Well, if you checked this newsgroup in between calls to Sierra, you'd
know that the patch exists.  It is going through testing.  We hope to
have it online next week.

I know... I'vw known about the patch through you and Rick for a LONG time now..
But up until last week or so, Sierra kept on saying, "Patch, what patch??
There's no patch for IndyCar Racing II. I don't know what you're talking about."

Ed,
Don't you guys ever learn.... thats what Rick said a week and a half
ago and coped a backhanded swipe from Sierra On-Line and created a
feeling of dismay amoung this group and now you have gone and set
yourself up for the fall. Don't tell me there is a spare position at
5D Games !!!!!

The reason the Sierra techs didn't know about the patch is that the Indy II
team _at Papyrus_ failed to communicate with Sierra, and underestimated the
work to release a patch.  The Sierra tech people have done their jobs, but
they were not kept informed.

Sorry, but the guys at Sierra deserve a few apologies.

Papy and Sierra have set up an intranet recently, and people are getting to
know who's who, so I believe there will be better coordination between Papy
and Sierra's tech support in the future.

As for poor product estimates and premature or errant announcements, I
suspect that will continue to plague mankind well into the next century.

Atta boy, Charlie.  Finally, somebody able to admit that there was a problem,
and take some responsibility for it.  Congratulations for being human, and an
employee of a large corporation (been there, done that!).
