My Logitech Wingman Formula Force GP wheel spiked me off the end of the
back straight at Monza for the last time today - it is on its way to the
trash dump.  I have been corresponding with the Wingman Team for almost
a month, trying to find a solution, and they have not fixed it.  I'm not
going to waste any time discussing that, suffice it to say that I need a
new wheel and it will not be a Logitech.  I'm looking for a medium
priced force feedback wheel that has clamps that are either big enough
to fit around a 5 inch deep desk drawer or shallow enough to grab the
one inch ledge in front of it.  Anybody know of such a thing?

Haq,

There's only one other "medium-priced" FF setup & that's the ACT Labs (ca.
$200), which users seem to love.  The low-end FF junk is terrible--TM & the
like; the high-priced stuff ($400 & up) is all non-FF.

Despite the praise for the Wingman "team" here, I've never been able to
elicit a response from them, and their total unwillingness to provide a
single spare part really puts me off buying any of their stuff in the future
(I own 2 orphaned LWFF wheels, idled by nickel-and-dime dead parts).

NOt sure where the MSFF fits in there, but in the UK at least it's
hardly cheap - 100 or so - and I certainly wouldn't call it junk.

Just wanted to differentiate between Logitech's official tech support and the "Wingman team" guys.  The former is indeed useless in
the case of spare parts, while the latter Unofficial software-oriented bunch has been a good and helpful source of info (and spiffy
utilities) to me!

You are doing yourself a disservice if you don't take a look at the Momo
wheel.

The MSFFW is a really wonderful piece of hardware.  Unfortunately, the
software is years behind and I'm not even convinced there _is_ a SideWinder
development team any longer.  If there is, they aren't coding SideWinder
updates.

I have to say that Tom and TC at Logitech have provided more in-person
support than I've ever experienced from a company...  Ever...

I find it quite refreshing in these days of "We takes yous money, you takes
yous chances".

You want bad support?  Buy a SideWinder...  Actually, bad support is
incorrect.  NO support is more accurate.

I've read the reviews and I can see why people like it, but the two
things that concern me are: first, those still look like very
short-travel pedals; and second I have heard from far too many people
that you cannot get spare parts for Logitech controllers.  Thanks for
your reply though.

I will admit the Wingman team tried very hard to help.  I don't want to
give anyone the impression that I am slinging mud at them specifically,
I am not.  I am however disappointed in the quality of the GP wheel,
which though inexpensive for a wheel is still an expensive accessory for
a computer IMO, and I am disappointed in the inability to get spare
parts for Logitech wheels.

The new pedals for the Momo wheel are a huge improvement over the original
LWFF pedals and for spare parts check out Mike Bay's website:

Sadly, I can only agree. I don't really understand why MS seem to have
given up - it's not as though they have a new wheel coming up (as far
as I know). Odd, when you consider that their control devices have
produced that rare thing - good publicity for Microsoft.

Anyone out there listenign from MS? You update the software; my next
wheel will be another MSFF (my third). You don't; it won't. Simple as
that.

What is it that you don't like about the software?

It's clumbsy, a pain in the ***to use, lacking features compared to other
manufacturers, isn't unified (this is a real mess), and doesn't work right
in all operating systems.

The gameport version will never work with 2K/XP.

It's ugly, messy stuff.
