Not a huge amount I would think.  What are the screen resolutions for gp4?
Somebody here said, and I agree with it, you get speed from faster CPU's and
my Eye Candy from a new vidcard.
Surely a new card will increase your framerate some, but not the leaps
and bounds you may be expecting.  What you will get is the ability to move
up a screen rez or two and maybe add FSAA or Anistropic filtering without
killing the frame-rate.
An XP 2200 is already faster than the target cpu GP4 was probably
disigned for, so your increases probably won't be that great.  If you have a
non-ddr gf3, then moving up to a 128mb with fast ddr vidram may allow you to
run 32bit color with little penalty as well.

Funny u should ask...

Just got a Sapphire radeon 9700 non pro - upgrade from Voodoo 5.

Running on a Abit KT7 with a tbird 1.3Ghz.

1280 x 1024 4xFSAA, 8xAA - I get around 70-80% occupancy with car at start
of race mid grid. Wet race, Imola.
If on my own just practice - around 30%.

Some minor graphics are not AA'ed if you stop and look for it. Otherwise
looks great.
Wheel spray doesn't seem to faze it - that was the big showstopper on the
V5.

Before with V5 on 2xFSAA had to run 800x600 or sometimes 1024 x768.
