It's basically a brand new version of F1C, but made specifically for
multiplayer. I played a few races and they were probably just being
hosted on normal dsl and cable and ran pretty decent, but i dont think
they put player limits so once 20 people joined it would ***out. But
someone with a real connection and spend 5 minutes setting it up it
should rock.

Not quite. :) rFactor is from ISI (as evidenced by the Image Space
Incorporated splash screen on launch), and First-Racing.net is the reborn
Papy.

rFactor is ISI's latest game after they ditched EA. The main focus of the
game is online play, moddability and a new DX9 graphics engine (and a decent
physics engine as always)

Visually it reminds me of N2003, only better, for some reason. Very clear
view anyway, lots of realistic touches that just add to the sense of a
real track.
Sound is stunning, car seems to handle well (ie very satisfyingly) and I,
er... still drive like a girl (apologies to any fast female lurkers). I
won't embarrass myself by revealing just how slow I am, but you could
certainly knit the sleeve of a small jumper while you wait for me to
complete a lap.

PS After playing a little more...
1) Didn't realise there were three cars (or variants) to choose from. The
third is definitely a little friskier than the default... lost about 4s
off my first lap time. Which means by dinner time I should be lapping
under three hours ;-)
2) I think it's the highly detailed textures of track and grass are what
make this feel faster and more realistic than anything I've driven before.
The proper 3d***pit helps as well. It has enough "depth" to make you
feel like you're really inside a vehicle.
3) The***pit shake is also the best I think I've experienced so far. It
just seems "right". Not too much as to be annoying (something I felt with
the GTR demo) but enough to really add to the sense of being there.
4) I still love the sound :-)
So I guess that means that a good driver should be managing to get well
under 1 minute with a hotlap setup :-)
This is pretty good fun though. I like LFS, but in a universe with limited
time for games (especially with HL2 about to appear and the 1.1 patch for
Lomac on the horizon) there is something very satisfying about the Rfactor
demo... so far. I've fallen in lust with demos before, and it's a little
early to say whether this is true love :-)
