gpl applying patches for 1.2, 3d and cpu fix

by mark » Thu, 01 Nov 2001 01:01:34

Hi,

I've downloaded the 1.2 upgrade patch along with the d3d and cpu fix,
what order should they be installed in, and is there a "proper" way to
install them as the 1.2 is a zip file.

thanks, mark....

You DON'T need the cpu fix if you're cpu is slower than 1.5ghz, it may
introduce problems if you do it on slower cpus.

Of course, if you have a 1.5ghz or higher, it is necessary.

Also, the order doesn't really matter much. But my suggestion is 1.2,
d3d, cpu.

The cpufix (GPL version 1.2.0.2) also contains a "better implimented" (so I
am told) version of the disco-fix, and stops GPL asking you for the CD
anymore (on the UK version, at least).

I am running the cpufix (GPL version 1.2.0.2) on my PII 333 with no problems
or ill-effects and so are a few others, so it seems safe to use it on slower
machines.

And the cpufix is required on PCs running above 1330mhz approximately.

Actually, I've never needed the cd with mine, 1.0, 1.1 and 1.2, Aust
vers. I think your pommie versions are different tho.

It's running fine here on my unpatched system, 1.4ghz. I was sure the
fix was for 1.5 ghz and up, but I may be wrong. The reason I suggested
not installing it on slower cpus is because of a thread a while back.
The guy installed the fix on his celeron 300 and GPL was useless
afterwards, ran really slowly. He was upset, but the patch actually
messed up a working version and wasn't even necessary. So he had to
reinstall the lot. It is supposed to be backwards compatible, but you
never know...
