GPL 1.2 patch question.

GPL 1.2 patch question.

by Kurt Steinboc » Sat, 06 Nov 1999 04:00:00

I tried installing the new patch from the Papy site, but got a message that
I didn't have a valid copy of GPL installed.  Is this because I used the
earlier leaked patch?  Do I need a clean install of 1.0?  Anyone else have
this problem?

Thanks!

You need to install of GPL 1.1 before you can install GPL 1.2.  In other
words, download the GPL 1.1 patch (if you haven't already) and install
it over 1.0, and then install 1.2 over 1.1.

If you've applied a patch to 1.1, such as the sound patch, you'll need
to revert to the original executable from 1.1.

I did a clean install of 1.0, then installed the 1.2 patch with no problems.
Intro screen sez I'm running 1.2.  Alison?  aka Alison "Hotlapper" Hine :)))

GPL 1.2 patch question.

Same here as well, did a clean GPL install from CD, then only the 1.2
patch. What's interesting is that there are both a 1.1 readme AND a
1.2 readme in the GPL directory now, but I KNOW that I didn't have 1.1
on this system ever.

This applies to the US version. The UK version was only a self-extracting zip
file, no install wizard.

So UK version owners need not worry about pre-installation version...

They still need the CD in the drive, though :-((((     I hate that...

GPL 1.2 patch question.

by John Zumste » Sat, 06 Nov 1999 04:00:00

I had a different experience. I originally loaded 1.0, upgraded it to
1.1 and, when trying to upgrade to 1.2, got the "not a valid copy of GPL
installed message." I reloaded 1.0, then installed 1.2, which worked
fine. So, in my case, I could only go from 1.0 to 1.2. FWIW, I did not
ever install the leaked 1.2 patch.

Yes, me.

I don't know which version I have, US or UK (I bought the game in
Sweden, it's in English - why on earth do they make different US and
UK versions?????). Anyway, when I apply the US patch I get the same
message. I can install the UK version, but then it asks for the CD to
be put in the drive (which it did not before) when I want to play.

I have a clean 1.0 version patched to 1.1.0.3.

Bwah.

The US version doesn't require the CD.

I believe trying to start again from the 1.0 exe will help.

Ruud> The US version doesn't require the CD.

Then I used to have the US version, or have, rather.

Ruud> I believe trying to start again from the 1.0 exe will help.

Yes, it did!

Re-installed from the CD, and then applied the patch. Have been
driving around Monza for the last half hour. The ai has been reset
to normal levels though (I'm very bad so used AI tweak to make them
a little slower).

Back to the track.

I don't think you have to go to the trouble of reinstalling - I didn't
anyway.  Just copy the file gpl.exe from your cdrom to your GPL working
directory, then run the patch.  Worked fine for me.

Same here. No problem patching 1.0 with 1.2.
