No, Mike...ALT+TAB doesn't work.

Question about GPL

But is the likelihood of various failures tied to event length at all?
(That is, if there's a 10% chance of tyre failure, does it start at, say,
2%, and raise to 10% by some later point in the race?)

10% is 10%..........irrespective of the length of a race.

Electronic ignition was a new development around this time and was *very*
unreliable. There are several reports of the cars just stopping and a few of
mechanics dousing the "black box" with water(!) to cool it down.

Well, there you have it, next time my computer locks
up in the middle of GP length race I will throw some
water on it to try to cool it down. :-)  If that fails I will
accept defeat and move on to the next round.

BTW, browsing through Forix I came across six ignition
related failures and one alternator failure.

George

Actually, the failure rate of the cars, generally, was abysmal.  A rough
calculation from a results sheet shows around 53% of the starts in 1967
ended in DNF.

They weren't all electrical, but pretty pathetic.  Look especially at
Gurney or Hill's record.
