3DFX Problems

I've got a P200MMX, 48mb RAM, S3 Virge DX (2mb) and a Maxi Gamer 3DFX.
I have a problem when I run some Direct 3D (or DDraw) games.
When the game starts up it asks which display device to use. I choose 3DFX
and the game tries to run, but instead the screen goes blank. There is NO
Hard Disk activity, and the keys do nothing.
If I soft-reset, the computer boots with a blank screen. If I soft reset
again, it fixes itself.

The games in question are International Rally Championship, Tomb Raider II,
Incoming and others.

How can I fix this problem?

Thanks in advance,
David Cane

I had this problem (with Toca Touring cars, and Ubisoft F1RS). After
playing around  (installing/removing drivers, installing/removing Directx,
installing/removing the card....)  for a few (increasingly annoying days), I
took the card back to where I bought it from - having concluded something was
wrong with it.

After spending 3 hrs going over everything I'd already tried and then trying the
card in 2 other systems, the guy said "uh, must be something wrong witht the
card". So I got another one, and it's been running fine for the last 2 weeks.
(the first one 'died' after 2 days).

So, methinks you should perhaps try the card in someone elses system and/or just
take it back and say it don't work no more

Hope this was of help.

Nah, the card is fine. It works perfectly on Native 3dfx stuff, and 50% of
the DIrect 3d stuff.
It's a software thing I reckon, but I just can't work out what.

I dont know much about the maker of the 3dfx card you are using, but you
want to make sure that you have the latest patches for the games in
question, and the latest drivers for the video card you are using, and the
sound card as well(you never know).  Then, i would completely unintstall
directx and reinstall with directx 5.2 so you know you have the latest
version.

Firstly, make sure you have the latest drivers for your card (the latest
3Dfx reference drivers will do).

Also, make sure you get the patch that is needed when using the Voodoo
with some S3 Virge cards.  It's available at http://www.3dfx.com and
also http://www.orchid.com

Andrew

Try downloading the last Glide drivers (ver 2.4 I think) from

www.3dfx.com

Fix the problem for me.
