2200 vs 3dfx for NR1999

2200 vs 3dfx for NR1999

So, the general consensus seems to be that a Rendition 2200 adapter will
perform better than a 3Dfx adapter.  I am considering the following choices
...
1) Hercules Thriller 3D AGP 4 or 8 meg of memory
2) Diamond Banshee Voodoo AGP 16 meg of memory

The Hercules can be had for $100 with 8 meg and <$40 with 4 meg.  I suspect
there is not a big benefit with the extra memory for NR1999 - but there may
be for Windows98 Direct Draw games.

The Diamond is close to $120.  I would guess this is the better all around
choice - but with prices down near $100 and below - I guess I don't really
care if I am buying an adapter that I will discard in a year.  I just want
something that is AGP to get the benefit of less CPU load.

Any experience with the choices or advise will be appreciated.
Thanks,  /TomH

Just where, besides ordering directly from Herc, can I get a decent price on
a Thriller 8 meg AGP?  Or is the extra 4 meg a waste of cash?  BTW, I run
NR99 and, soon, GPL.

Go for the 8mb if you intend to run GPL.

Multiwave (www.multiwave.com) has it for about $113 with reasonable shipping
costs and no tax (depending on where you live).  /TomH

My Blitz 2200 4 meg PCI cost me $31 shipped just 2 weeks ago.  It's an ok card;
faster than my Sierra Screamin' 3D, but with lower build quality...
