I've been chatting with Chris a lot lately, and with mutual agreements,
it's time to tell what's been done and what are immediate plans for WSC,
I'll concentrate only on the development of it. What's been recent you
may ask ?

Looks like it's almost complete if they aren't touching the game engine core
anymore.  The staccato engine was the only good thing in Nascar Revolution.
Christmas 2001 is a realistic date I say.

Will they still keep the Glide rasterizer as an available option for the
users that *do* have Voodoo cards?

My Hercules 3D Prophet 4500 uses the Kyro II chipset, and yes, it does have
W-Buffering.  Go under Start/Settings/Control Panel/Display, click on the settings
tab, click advanded, go to 3D performance, and there you are.

nope Krakus, since WSC is using exclusively DX8 stuff... OpenGL doesn't have
W-Buffers, no go.. Glide is not DX8 : no go

I can confirm that.  I have a D3D setting for W-Buffering.

you will still be able to use your Voodoo card via D3d, just not in glide.
FWIW....D3D in GPL is every bit as fast on my system as Glide.  My V5 also
runs n4 in D3d..although at about 10-20 fps less than a Geforce with TnL
turned on.

agree Dave, only poor old V2 won't do it.. in any case, it's way too slow for
the task

I should have also pointed out that while the Voodoo cards can run d3d,
many of the features available via DX8 won't be possible with a Voodoo.  And
because some of these features most likely improve frame rate....you may see
markedly slower fps with a Voodoo.  Of course some of the newer Dx8 features
are frame rate killers so you may even out in the long run.

Hi Dave,
I have also noticed that my V5 runs GPL just as fast in D3D as with Glide
but on my monitor D3D looks like washed out ***compared to Glide. Am I
missing something in the setup of D3D or is Glide just that much better
looking with the V5?
Regards,
Robin
