Indeed, as if memory serves did a fellow with the initials DK.  Had some
small role in the development of GPL I think; maybe you should ask him!

Even tried it myself for a bit just to see how it would go.  Used the stick
with my CH pedals and found you could go really quick since you had
near-instant lock-to-lock steering response.  But it didn't feel like
driving a car, so I went back to my good old Wingman Formula wheel.

Still, only time I ever got through Masta flat was with the stick...  ;-)

That's the key or nail on the head right there Steve!

I tried a joystick too - to replace my -at the time, TSW wheel and the first
thing you could see in GPL was that with the Joystick you just set the steer
ratio nicely and then when driving just "whack" the stick to full lock at
corner entry and keep throttle in it.
The joystick was fast -maybe faster- than a wheel in GPL.

They actually do that in real life, it creates oversteer and helps the
car turn.

I actually raced GPL with keys for a bit when my wheel broke, when you
got used to it you could go pretty darned fast... The longer you held
the key the more it turned, you could be fairly precise. Of course
traction control was always on as a driver aid though...
