NASCAR 2 Track Pack

Was surprised to see EB mention a NASCAR2 TRACK PACK on upcoming
releases. (Due date 1 May 97) Hmmm, wonder what tracks might be in
there? Texas very likely, maybe the late 97 season new Atlanta
configuration. A pack for just two tracks seems a bit thin though.
Anyone know if Sega ***ping of Daytona's good name is over by May?

Steve-
Sega's contract for Daytona is over in Spring '97 so I look for the
Track Pack to have the following:
Darlington (switched front & back stretch)
Daytona
Texas
Las Vegas
California
Atlanta (new config.)

Hopefully they'll have both California and Texas. MAYBE a "Busch Track
Pack" with the Busch tracks such as Milwaukee, Hickory, etc. that the
WC cars don't run but that it'd be cool to run anyway (hey, the name
is NASCAR racing, not Winston Cup racing)

Where did you see EB mention a track pack?  Was just at the EB web site
and I did'nt see anything of the sort.  Also, with Papy's history for
attention to detail, I don't expect to see Texas or California anytime
soon.  They will wait until the races are run there first so that they
can talk to the drivers and learn as much about the tracks as they can.
As for Daytona or even Indy, it's all about legalites...  Some people say
that Sega has the rights to Daytona for three years, so that would rule
that out.  As far as Indy, I guess it's Tony George's decision to let
Papyrus release it or not.  I'm not holding my breath, just enjoying what
we already have!

Although Sega's contract runs out this year, don't they have the
ability to extend the contract?

I'm not sure if Papyrus would bother to re-release Darlington with the
start/finish line on the opposite straightaway.  Ditto for Atlanta.
Particularly since NASCAR 2 was based on the 1996 season.

Las Vegas?  Although the Super Trucks and BGN cars (I think) are
planning to run there, the Winston Cuppers don't even have that track
on the 1997 schedule.  Although the sim can be tuned to run a Super
Truck or BGN series, support from Papyrus seems to be strictly for the
WC series and the track on the WC schedule.

I'd like to see California and/or Texas as much as the next guy, but
echoing another post in this same thread, Papyrus can't really create
a realistic interpretation of either of them until they talk to the
drivers after they've run on the two new tracks.

Besides, I think this whole Track Pack thing is a misunderstanding.
The person who saw it (IF they saw it) in some form of EB promotional
material probably saw the NASCAR 1 Track Pack.

I would like to see some new tracks, though.

If we see an Indy track that "could" only mean that we won't see any
more CART based sims from Papyrus, only IRL based.

Of course with Sony suposedly having a exclusive licensing agreement
with CART...

Here's a hell of an idea!  He's right...it IS called NASCAR Racing 2,
not "Winston Cup 2".  I'd love to be able to run Hickory, Orange County,
South Boston, Myrtle Beach, Milwaukee (although you CAN convert this to
N1 from ICR2), Nazareth (ditto), Volusia County (my "home" track)....

Nope, not an a misunderstanding. It would be even dumber of
Papyrus/Sierra to reintroduce the track pack when every 'Sierra' labeled
box of Nascar 1 had all the tracks included. The upcoming release list
most definitely had 'N2 Track Pack' listed along with 1 May 97 for the
anticipated release date. The list should be in the book of 'Upcoming
Releases' at your local EB by now.

Jeff,
Saw the info in new sheets for the 'Upcoming Releases' book that's kept
at each EB.

Now wait a minute...are you saying that Sega actually DIDN'T get the
rights to Daytona for 3 more
years, as was previously reported here?  What is your source on that?

Why not the CASCAR tracks, and the F1 tracks, and the CART tracks, and
the IRL tracks, and the F3000 tracks, and the Formula Atlantic tracks,
and the Sprint tracks, and the drag tracks, and the Kart tracks, and the
Nascar Trucks tracks!:  :)    Just kidding.  I think they have better
work to do then to make tracks.  Fix the bugs and after if there's time
left make some tracks.  Good race at the Brickyard.

Hickory in a 3500 lb 700 Horsepower engine.  I don't think so.  Papyrus
should offer a true BGN car; less HP, lighter, shorter wheelbase.  Then
give us Hickory, Nazareth, South Boston, etc.

BTW, this suggestion has already been submitted to Papyrus.  You may
want to voice your support for it in N3, now.

I just wanted to point out that that's really two different groups of
people (engineers vs artists). The artists don't really have any
"bugs" to fix, so they could (in a theoretical sense) work on tracks
while engineers (in a theoretical sense) worked on the patch(es).
