Indianapolis 500 The Simulation & Sound Blaster mode

I got a copy of Papyrus' old Indy 500 recently (can't beat it for
$1.88 :).  It's the Electronic Arts 1995 reissue on CD-ROM.  I'd like
to use it in Sound Blaster mode with my old Reveal 8-bit SB-compatible
card, but I can't figure out *how* to get it to work.  According to
the box and the EA booklet, its SB-compatible.  However, the Papyrus'
online docs make no mention of how to access SB-compatible mode (only
no sound, PC speaker, Adlib, Roland, and Tandy).  BTW, this version
does do joystick control, which I think was only in a later version of
the program.  Also, I don't think its a problem with my system config.
as I've tried it in both DOS 6.2 and Win95.  Now for the questions...

Does my version of Indy500 do SB-compatible mode?  Do I need a
patch?  (I saw the patch a couple of years ago [and chuckled, thinking
who would need *that*?!?] but couldn't find anything on the web today.
Even a filename for the patch would be a help.)

If my version does do SB-compatible mode, how do I access it?  What
is the command line switch?  (I've tried /a through /z  and /sb with
no results.) :(

Thanks to anyone who can help me with this "ancient mystery".  :)

Pick one or more: Model Rockets (competition-NERCB) / PCs (even Atari!) /
Papyrus ICR-ICR2-NCR / Who needs a life when you have multiple non-lives?

Use the ADLIB soundcard switch. I think INDY/A is what you type to use
your soundcard.

Thanks for the replies, guys!  When all else fails change the
question...  ;)

I have tried the /a switch but I seem to get erratic results.
Little or no sound from my car, some sound from other cars.  I'm
begining to think that it might be a DMA conflict between my old
Reveal 8-bit sound card and the Intergraph Reactor.  Oddly, I have no
sound problems in ICR2 or NASCAR1/2.  Using the original diagnostic
program for my sound card gives me an "Error on DMA" message.  The
Reveal is hardwired to DMA channel 1, don't know about the Reactor
(Win95 Device Manager does not list a DMA channel for the Reactor?).
Or do you think Reveal's 4+ year old diagnostics aren't up to Pentium
class machines?  Or is it time to get a real sound card?...

   Ah well, thanks anyways!

Jeff,

There was once a patch on the Papyrus BBS for this problem.  You see,
Indianapolis 500 was written on a 286, before 486's were even on the
drawing board.  So when the game was run on any 486 and above, the
sounds didn't work right.  Papyrus addressed this shortly before
releasing IndyCar I.  Get the patch if you still can, and you'll be in
business.

Have you tried /s? I am not sure but I think that is it.  Sorry if it
isn't.
