earlier than HP2, I find it much more enjoyable.
Any other good recommendations for arcade type racing games?

That's kinda funnny but I'd describe GP4 as a very poor simulation rather
than an arcade game. Total Immersion Racing is an arcade style game, but
the lack of multiplayer (other than split screen) is inexcusable. Can't
think of many others... PU is probably still the best.
Thanks, I'll go look for Total Immersion.
You guys heard of Viper Racing? How is that one compared to Porsche U.

I think Viper Racing is a top notch game/sim. Driving the Vipers around you
get a wonderful feel for the road. The game's main drawback (in my mind)
was that it had only very limited tracks and, well, only one car. Lately
some people have been bringing it back to life with a series of new addon
tracks and cars. I think you can find a link to more information about one
such project at: http://viper.racesimcentral.com/ .
Umm, but then I'm not sure where you draw the line between arcade and
non-arcade....Viper Racing had/has a very good physics model and depending
upon what you're looking for, you may find the learning curve steep...don't
know. I had PU and other NFS games, and I found Viper much more rewarding.
Worth checking out for sure.

It was a great sim (not really arcade) but is very dated now.
You might try Real Car Simulator Nissan and Toyota Edition. They're very
"NFS-like" although not as elaborate as NFS-PU.

Also saw Viper Racing mentioned in another post. It's very cool, with
highly realistic physics, but it's track based and doesn't have as
much variety as Porsche Unleashed. One car, straightforward racing,
not "mission type stuff like PU, dated graphics and rather limited
track selection. For 15 bucks or whatever it costs now, it's still a
bargain.

Thanks, I'll check out the viper racing in bargain bin(I saw it few days
ago), and will pick it up.
Between arcade and sim, well... I think the arcade line is drawn right at
Porsche Unleashed, with it's realistic physics and forgivable damaging
models.
I'd still call it arcade racing because of the very forgivable(yet somewhat
realistic) damaging model.
Hot Pursuit 2 is absolutely an arcade game no question, because the damaging
model is totally missing(other than visual), and the physics of cars are
ridiculous.
I prefer the borderline arcade-sim of Porsche Unleashed. At least in this
game the car can be rendered undrivable after smashing into walls multiple
times.

It has an arcade (and intermediate) mode too... and the GT mod makes
it a bit less dated ;-)

I lost interest in the game though becaue it didn't have an in-car view
:( That's a major failing on a PC racing SIM/Game as far as I'm concerned.
