CPU, GPU and now PPU?

I keep hearing about Physics Processing Units (PPU) and now I just heard a
ref design is available and we should see something (hardware and
associated software eg games) by the end of 05.

I wonder what kind of impact this will have on the next generation games?

Physics engine on a chip version XX now available, rendering all other
physics obsolete ;)

And conversely, a new version of the chip renders previous chip-based
physics also obsolete and maybe even inoperative.   And sims based on
earlier chips may not work with a new chip installed.

I'm still waiting for MS to catch up to Amiga and put the OS on a
programable Eprom.  Instant OS booting and no disk access for OS
procedures.
