Yes, I understand.  But maybe it's because he didn't get to beta test the PC
version and did get to beta test the PS2 version that he likes one and so
vehemently scathes the other.

F1 2002 ?

I have already bought F1 2000 and F1 2001.  Until they patch F1 2001 to the
point that it is at least a half-assed quality game, EA gets NO more money
from me.

I guess I should have learned from all the Nascar Revolution titles.

Unless Papy decides to do another Open Wheel SIM (we can only hope), I fear
there will never be a modern F1 sim.

Well, I think the MGI guys could do it too, but talent doesn't matter these
days.  It's the publishers and bean-counters who decide what does, and
doesn't, get written.

How the hell did that happen, anyway?

I've heard of publishers actually blocking patches!

I doubt very much fluffpony works for EA. For one thing he used the
slang term "naff", which is a Brit word meaning ***and I don't think
EA would hire any limey lieing bastage. :-)

I've read that F12001 for the PS2 looks better, but has a ***driving
model. What's more important, gameplay or graphics? Anyone who thinks
the latter can sell their PC and go buy a PS2.

You don't work for EA you limey bastage, go play your arcade game and
we will enjoy our simulation. From the F12001 FAQ at
http://www.jensonf1.com/f12001/

What is the Playstation 2 version like?
The PS2 version is obviously more of a arcade game. The handling in
simulation is similar to F1 2001 on the PC, but unfortunately the game
controls are deeply flawed as the throttle, brake and especially the
steering sensitivity is much to high and has a very large dead zone on
analogue racing wheels for the PS2 (such as the Logitech GT Force
Feedback USB wheel which also works with the PC). The controller
problem effects all analogue controllers, even the PS2 control pad!
You cannot adjust the dead zone or sensitivity in the menus
whatsoever, which spoils an otherwise great game. One positive note
about the PS2 version is that the arcade playability is still good,
the interactive pit stops feature is the best new feature in an F1
game since the wet weather effects in Grand Prix 3, and talking of
graphics, the 3D engine is in the same class as Gran Turismo 3, with
stand out effects such as the best yet wet weather graphics, brilliant
cube mapping (reflective surfaces such as the shiny chrome part of
Montoya's helmet reflecting the 3D objects around it, like trees and
advertising hoarding) and the cars themselves are stunning, not to
mention the pit babes, heat ripples in the atmosphere over the hot
track and maybe the most stunning feature: the motion captured pit
crew.

SBK 2001.  It will boot with the cd but when you go to a track, the cd is

says...

As you've probably noticed with the PC version, there's a wide
variety of opinions on the same sim. Reading that it has ***
physics model doesn't make it so.

The PS2 versions main problem is that by default the front wing is
on 17 (out of 20) and the rear is on 20 making the car stick to the
road and the steering feel very sensetive. Modifying the wing to
realistic settings makes the car feel very nice.

The other failing is that the controls aren't very configurable.
My Ferarri wheel can't map gear changes to the paddles, only to the
stick shift which makes it difficult to drive. You also can't modify
the speed sensetivity, deadzone, etc as you can the PC version.

I prefer the PS2 version to the PC version in nearly all aspects
besides the fact you can't save your car settings and the controller
options are very limited. Those saying that the physics are ***are
likely using the default setup, and using this setup makes the car
ultra sensetive to wheel movement and it bottoms out at high speed.

Cheers,
Rod.

Ok, speak up now, are you just trolling or not? F1CS was a big
improvement over F1 2k, and F1 2001 is much better than F1CS.
Imho despite all the bugs it's even better than GP3 2000. And I loved
that one.

EA was the publisher but it was developed by Studio Liverpool, located in
England I presume.

BTW, I own the PC and PS2 versions and love them both! They each have a
different feel, both have pros and cons. For the PC version next year I'd
like to see them finally incorporate T&L to the graphics engine, add a
better replay interface and include a better system for tweaking the AI so
that we can easily adjust the AI's speed on the straights AND in the turns
(much like GPL's ini files). This has been a problem since F1 2000!

Anyway, I like everything else about the AI and find it's just as good as
the PS2 version.

Am gonna end the F1 2001 PC debate for all :)

personally I couldn't give a Rat's Ass.. but:
I do work for EA, in Chertsey UK, I dunno why I am replying again and of
course you're all game's experts here and EVERYONE has an opinion

if you ask me, I didn't buy the game... why? 'cos it looked shite, I
coulda got it for a tenner from the EA Shop employee's only.. if you
think you can make a difference to the shite that we've been putting out
lately, then get a job there! it's not hard if you think I am thick as
pigshit and bullshitting and stuff.. if you do then in a simple word,
like I give a shit.. I know I am earning 800 a month play-testing
games.. in fact you american's should see the credits for the X Box
version when the X Box comes out.. 'cos I am in there too! Beleive it or
not, I have been playtesting stuff for years, for other company's aswell
as EA, and my opinions are my own, I never wanted to cause a fight and
although this has caused a fight I apologise.. but as far as I am
concerned, everyone has an opinion, and mine counts.

how many on here can say they have actually raced cars? I've done some
GT Racing in the past so I think I know how a sim works.. umm I know it
sounds daft but the ASCAR is a good laugh too.. want to know why I use
this nickname? 'cos I am staying anonymous.. I don't wanna lose my job
over this.. so if I were you I wouldn't bother :)
