Help:f1gp under Win95?

by Nathan Brop » Sun, 31 Dec 1995 04:00:00

I have a question about running f1gp under Win95.
When first install f1gp it ran under Win95 without rebooting into DOS.
After not running f1gp for a while, I started f1gp and it say that it
would not run because of lack of memory.  I had to reconfigured the
programs autoexec.bat and config.sys (similar to what the FAQ
recomended) to get it up and running.  Now it reboots into DOS mode
and it runs fine.

One problem, I kind of miss running under Win95 mode.  I liked being
able to jump in and out of f1gp.  I was wonder if there is way to
setup the autoexec.bat and config.sys so that there is enough memory
to allow f1gp to run in Win95?

Here is my MS-DOS setup
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
autoexec.bat

C:\PROGRA~1\MCAFEE\VSHIELD.EXE /ANYACCESS
SET SOUND=C:\SB16
SET BLASTER=A220 I5 D1 H5 P330 E620 T6
SET MIDI=SYNTH:1 MAP:E MODE:0
C:\SB16\DIAGNOSE /S
C:\SB16\AWEUTIL /S

PROMPT $p$g
PATH C:\WINDOWS;C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND;C:\DOS;C:\PROGRA~1\MCAFEE
SET TEMP=C:\DOS
\BIN\CORELCDX.COM /C:SONY_000 /M:8 /XMSSIZE:0

config.sys

DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\HIMEM.SYS
DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\EMM386.EXE
FILES=40
DOS=UMB
DEVICEHIGH /L:1,9792 =C:\SB16\DRV\CSP.SYS /UNIT=0 /BLASTER=A:220
DEVICEHIGH /L:1,26864 =C:\SB16\DRV\CTSB16.SYS /UNIT=0 /BLASTER=A:220

DOS=HIGH
DEVICEHIGH  /L:1,28976 =\DEV\ATAPI_CD.SYS /D:SONY_000 /I:0
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here is how I have the f1gp program's Ms-Dos setup to get running
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
autoexec.bat

PATH=C:\WINDOWS;C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND;C:\BIN;C:\DOS;C:\USR\BIN;C:\GAME\F1GP\BIN
SET BLASTER=A220 I5 D1 H5 P330 T6 E620
SET SOUND=C:\SB16

config.sys

DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\HIMEM.SYS
DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\EMM386.EXE NOEMS RAM
LASTDRIVE=Z
FILESHIGH=60
DOS=HIGH,UMB
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am running a P90 with 8megs ram.  Any suggestions?

Thanx,
Nathan

Hi Nathan,

I also have a P90 with 8MB. My config.sys looks like this:
REM DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\SETVER.EXE
REM DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\HIMEM.SYS
REM DOS=HIGH
REM device=C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\display.sys con=(ega,,1)
REM Country=031,850,C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\country.sys
REM DEVICEHIGH=C:\WINDOWS\RAMDRIVE.SYS 512/E
REM DEVICE=C:\DOS\INTERLNK.EXE
FILES = 79
BUFFERS = 20
REM DEVICEHIGH/L:0=C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\DRVSPACE.SYS /MOVE

REM C:\PROGRA~1\MCAFEE\VSHIELD.EXE /ANYACCESS
PROMPT $p$g
PATH C:\WINDOWS;C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND;C:\DOS;C:\PROGRA~1\MCAFEE
SET TEMP=C:\TMP
REM mode con codepage prepare=((850) C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\ega.cpi)
REM mode con codepage select=850

I don't know what kind of programs and utitlities you use, but on my
computer I haven't got any problem.

  I would recommend not having a Config.sys or Autoexec.bat file.
Win95's msdos.sys file loads everything needed to run in Win95 GUI.
The only time the stuff in the config.sys or autoexec.bat is used is
when you run a program that shutdown to MSDOS ver. 7.
  I use a multi boot config.sys and autoexec.bat files.  I have two
options.  One to load Win 95 version only which doesnt load anything
in the config.sys or autoexec.bat files.  The other I load in DOS
drivers to access the CD when I shutdown to MSDOS to play games like
MK3.
  Really the only line I think you will need in config.sys might be
emm386.exe ram to give you expaned memory for F1GP but you dont need
any autoexec.bat.

Any questions or if you want a clear explanation just email me.
Mike
