Thrustmaster Formula T2's - slightly different versions???

by Daniel Ts » Sat, 18 Jan 1997 04:00:00

Hi I purchased a T2 the other week and received a console with a blue
"Formula T2" sticker on the front, and on the "dash" panelling where
it says "Formula T2" it was black and etched into the panelling. The
finish of the box was standard like the one you find games in.

The next week I noted the Formula T2 were being packaged in a slightly
different box which was more "glossier". There was now a black
"Thrustmaster" sticker on the front of the console, and on the "dash"
panneling where it says "Formula T2", I believe it was silver and
blue.

I didn't get a closer look,  and was wondering if anything else had
been changed - notably in the design, or if this was a slight cosmetic
adjustment only.

I use both feet to acc. & brake.  If there is only one axis for both
pedals, doesn't this mean I can't get into brake function until the
position of the y-axes (controlled by both pedals) is at sum below
zero?   This kinda sucks.  It is sometimes beneficial to dab brakes
while feathering the gas.  Isn't it true that the older T2 pedals
could run x & y axis independently on the B joystick??   If so, why
would they make this seeming backward step?

I don't deal with the limitation, as I use CH pedals with the GP1
wheel.

The newest T2's (those who's date code is 961118 or later) no longer
need the axis converter.  The wheel and pedals are now set as the X and
Y axes of Joy 1.  The T2 is now a 2 axes 4 button controller.

The gas and brakes have always been on the same axis.  On the older
T2's, they were on a single axis of Joy 2.  Win95 had trouble with the
missing axis of Joy 1, so there was the need for the converter.  Since
it didn't make a difference in performance, the change was made
permanent.  If you have full gas and press the brake slightly, it's
essentially the same thing as if you just lifted on the gas.  I find it
to work quite well.
