F1 sim with multiplayer capability??

Hi,

I am looking at purchasing an F1 sim. I would appreciate opinions. Also, can
these sims be played over the net?

Thank you from a long time NASCAR online freak. (MHarper on Hawaii)

F1 2001 by Ea Sports when it comes out

Also if you have F1 2000  or F1 CS 2000 by EA Sports you can get a CART patch
for it  :)

Do you want a modern F1 sim or a classic F1 sim?

IMO the best F1 sim is Grand Prix Legends.  This simulates the 1967 F1
season.  It has realistic and immersive physics, excellent FF and really
good online race support through VROC.

As to modern F1 sims, I have 2, GP3 and F1 Championship Season 2000.  They
are both alright but are nothing special compared with GPL.  I haven;t tried
wither for online racing but I understand they aren't very good.

Cheers

Grand Prix Legends. The cars may be 30+ years old, but they can still
do 200mph, the tracks are great (both original and addon), and online
racing is enormous fun (and, more to the point, sporting - I understand
that N4 is rather different in this regard).

You can't run it on anything above a 1.4GHz chip (for the mo, anyway -
I suspect *some* solution will be found to this, even if only a
kludge), and you'll want to do some patching to enable things like
force feedback and support for non-3dfx graphics cards, but nothing too
complicated.

If you particularly want a modern sim (why?) then GP3, F1CS2000 and
F1RC seem to be much of a muchness, with F1RC potentially the best but
for flawed AI.

GPL: Yes, very easily. See www.vroc.net for all you need to know.

Modern ones: LAN, yep, but net... nope. There are various reasons put
about as to why this is so, but presumably the dead hand of one B.
Ecclestone is involved somewhere. Some people think it's because he
dislikes the idea of people racing "outside the law" of the FIA.

Whatever, the official "it's not technically feasible to do it properly
with today's internet" excuse is wearing very thin after two years of
VROC.

Conclusion: Buy GPL :-)
