Except for the gameplay considerations... that's pretty much the only
reason I have a PC at home... well, EMAIL too, but I hardly think NT
will make my EMAIL experience a whole lot better.

Nicely put, Scott.

I'm running a dual-boot of W95/W98 at work for eval purposes, primarily
to ensure that no problems will occur with our company's product when
customers change to W98.

To be honest, the "average" user will find little difference if a
"Typical" installation has been done.

I would also support your statement that a clean install be carried out.

(snipped some pertinent stuff...)

You know I can't let people know about that yet, Bruce. Let's try to keep a lid on it, huh

What about the Toyota Atlantic Championship...that Bethesda product,
    Mark?  Does that run okay?

Can't make a direct comparison, since I went from a K6-200 w/ Win 95 A to a
new Gateway PII-400 w/ Win 98 pre-installed, but I like some of the
interface tweaks and it seems really stable.  Not terribly different than my
friend's Gateway PII-300 w/ Win 95 B and IE 4.0 though.  My current advice
to friends is if you have Win 95 A, get it, the bug fixes and additions
(like FAT 32) are welcome, and it's a good bit more stable.  If you got a PC
not too long ago and have Win 95 B, while you probably won't see $90
improvement, the reworked internet code and some tweaks here and there seem
pretty good if you aren't looking for anything earthshattering, but a lot of
what's there is already in Win 95 B.  Maybe not worthwhile to upset a
well-tuned system in either case, but if I were still using the "old" PC I'd
probably go for the upgrade.

Side note, F1RS (1.09) and N2 (3dfx beta) are working fine under Win 98,
although I have had some engine sound dropouts after playing F1RS for a
while, not real sure what's up since this is a 2 week old system with a
different sound card than the old one and I haven't gone tweaking yet..
Changed some setting in the sound .cfg file per the FAQ at
www.f1racingsim.com, and no problems since, but it was intermittent so not
too sure.
