CPR vs SDRAM

by Denny » Wed, 17 Dec 1997 04:00:00

I just recently upgraded my memory from 32MB EDO 60 ns to 32MB SDRAM
10ns
now when I start CPR everything loads up intill the car lurches out of the
pits at that point in time I get the dreaded grey box that says, invalid
instruction then gives an error code C000001D then my little world comes
crashing down. Everything worked fine before changing the memory, and the
memory was all that I changed.
My system is  Intel 233 OC to 250 ( 3 X 83 ) Diamond stealth 3D with 4 MB
ram, a monster 3D card, 32 MB 10ns SDRAM , 5 gigs of WD hard drives, 10 X
cdrom, Sb AWE32, all on a Tyan S1571S Titan Turbo AT-2 mb.

                                               Thanks Denny M

CPR vs SDRAM

I have two different banks for the mem and have tried them both, with the
same results. This afternoon I am going to try a different peice of mem, but
I am not holding my breath because CPR is the only thing I can,t make work.
The other games and programs work fine, it even runs winbench98 without a
glitch.

Thanks for your replys   Denny M

I don't know if this is the situation in your case, but I have known
"bad memory" or mis-matched memory to cause problems like this.  Is
there another bank to try the memory in?

I've got SDRAM (96 megs) on this machine, and the CPR demo
runs fine. However, it is the memory that came with it, so I don't
know if the upgrading has anything to do with your problems or
not.

Is your SDRAM ECC - does it have the gold plated leads?

For what it's worth,

Another thing to try is remove the overclocking just for a test and see if
that is possibly causing a problem.

Thanks everybody for your help, it turned out to be a bad peice of memory,
it didn't like CPR either.

I was not aware you could use a 83mhz bus with mere 60ns EDO. Are
you sure you were running 83 x 3 before? In any case I would say you
need to tweak the memory timing in CMOS. I feel certain you would need
to adjust that going from EDO to SDRAM.

I don't know about anybody eleses computer but mine worked fine with edo at
3 x 83, with the different sdram it runs fine with it to.

 Thanks again Denny M

Microsoft software products have always been good ram testers, they are such
memory hogs that if you keep getting invalid page faults you can bet you have
some type of memory problem. I had this happen to me recently but also confirmed
the bad simms with Nuts & Bolts ram diagnostics.

Is the Nuts &  Bolts RAM diagnostics a utility that can be downloaded from
the 'net? If so where can I find it?
