NR2002 Force Feedback

by Paul Grunwal » Sun, 04 May 2003 08:45:07

I just got a Logitech Formula Force USB wheel. It calibrates fine in both
WinXP Pro and in the game. In the WinXP Pro game controller panel I get all
the different effects when I press the buttons.

In NR2002 I have turned off steering assist and enabled force feedback.
Setting are 70/0/0. Logitech driver settings are at default. I do not have
a Wingman profile.

I'm getting some feedback at speed and the wheel is reponding.

My silly questions is: Am I supposed to be getting more effects like engine
rumble, bumping the wall or other cars, changing ground surfaces, etc.? If
yes, how do I enable them?

absolutely,

with a dialed in FF wheel, you should be getting a ton of effects.  I can
feel changes in elevation in my wheel in GPL.  First off, your 70/0/0
settings are off.  There seems to be several camps about those "0's" but
setting them to "0" never felt right to me.  It is a huge matter of taste
with regard to what force, latency, and damping should be set to, so you have
to play around with it, *alot.*  And you have to mess around with it in the
controller software and the game software.

You're best bet is to get on Google, and search this news group for FF
settings.  There are lengthy discussions going back at least a year
discussing this, with a lot of people throwing in their two cents about what
feels right and what doesn't.  You should also check the racesim central
forums.  Cause there are discussions there as well.

That should get you started.  Then its a matter of taste.  Additionally, I
find that some settings in one game don't work in another (gpl and N2002 for
example), and that settings for the speedways don't feel right on the short
tracks.  So you even have to play around there as well.

But when its finally dialed in to your liking, its a blast.  Like I said, in
GPL i can very much feel changes in track elevation as my car lifts off the
ground, feels bumps in the track, etc...  But it took a lot of dorking around
to get it there.

hth,
jeff

oh, and I have a MoMo racing, but I would assume the same things apply to all
FF wheels, just that the numbers may be differnt.  good luck.

I seemed to have solved the problem but it was wierd...

I uninstalled, rebooted, and reinstalled the logitech drivers, no effect.

I uninstalled, rebooted, and reinstalled the game, no effect.

I was fooling with the graphics settings and turned off ansiotropic
filtering - started getting force feedback effects like I expected.  I
then turned on ansiotropic filtering and the effects remained...

I am using a P4 2.0 Ghz machine with a GF3 Ti200 with the 30.82 drivers.
I'm running at 1280x960x32, car detail high, mirror med, world some,
distance 85%, 24/8 for cars, ansio, shadows, and lightmaps on,
reflections off.  I get about 35FPS.

Can someone explain why the graphics settings affect force feedback?
