Based on the recommendations of some in this group I picked up this title
from the EB bargain bin.  It is very impressive in many ways and a real
lesson on how to program F1 track graphics and sounds.  I wish ALL of the F1
car titles would use whoever developed this title to help them out.

One niggle: the controls seem to be set-up for either a game pad or
joystick. The game pad is of course a non-issue. I am attempting to use my
wheel (as others here recommended)--and you do get used to it fairly
quickly--which is recognised as a joystick in the game. The problem is that
the axes seem to be pre-programmed with a very strong suitable-for-joystick
non-linear bias.  With the wheel and pedals it seems like you have to make
exaggerated movements to get anything to happen...like you are driving in
molasses.

Do any of you SBK2001 experts know how to get linear wheel and pedal action
happening?  I think I am going to really like this title...and gain a new
respect for until now ignored motor bike racers.  These guys make the F1 car
racers seem like easily frightened weaklings by comparison.  The falling off
the bike crashes are truly spine tingling to watch and one can only imagine
what it would be like to race knowing you are a couple of millimetres from
the asphalt...

Thanks,

Marc

Put your controller into windows as a 4 button joystick and calibrate.
Run game and set up as joystick.

Adrian.

For what it's worth Mike " The Bike" Hailwood said that cars were more
dangerous than bikes. The car FEELS confidence inspiring, nice and stable,
all that protection around you, seatbelts, fire systems, etc., but in a
shunt it was likely to be some bit of the car that ended up hurting you.

Hailwood himself ended up with his legs crushed, in an F1 car.

Cars were very different in his day, and are much safer today, but the
general principle still seems to apply to some degree.

On, setting up your controller.  I haven't had much luck with dual axis so I
stick with single axis.

I calibrate the accelerator and brake the same, but short calibrate my wheel
so it only turns through 180 degrees, or 90 degrees either way.   This makes
the steering side to side feel a lot less combersome and much easier and
faster.

Marc,

Sorry I can't help you Wheel issue, but if you are looking for SBK info,
Check out the Superbike 2001 forum at http://www.sportplanet.com/hg/forums/

Good info and the riders are also doing an offline racing league (you'll
soon find out that online play with SBK is a bit dfficult for more than a
head-to-head race. Too Bad, it's the games only fault!)

How is this different from what I have now?  How does it turn off the
non-linear effect?

Marc.

If you're looking for a new controller look at www.ducati.com they have in
their e-store a Ducati Corse Controller. You'll have to look under Ducati
Accessoires & Toys. I don't know if it's good. But It's a idea.

Looks cool, but I don't see any kind of clamping system on it.

It may well be good, but without a clamping system I wouldn't buy it.

Possible, Interact make a wheel that does that. But, in that ad it
mentions use on coffee table or desk etc. so I think it is meant like
a tripod stand.

I looked at the site and the controller and I "kinda" liked it but I agree
Nos v7, It needs to be clamped in some manner or something to keep
it locked to anything!! Btw: is this controller FF or just plain?? {it said
something about its "vibrating action" but is it FF?} Tia..

If this is the case Blackrat you better be one of SnowWhite's
Seven Dwarfs..lol

| Looking at it, I wonder if the two feet at the bottom are supposed to go
under
| your thighs so it seats on the chair in front between your legs?

I think it's one of those rumble controllers that they sell on console
systems. They just vibrate to simulate a rumbling engine.

I've talked with a few guys on High Gear Forums who use the Ducati
Controller for the Superbike 2001 offline competition and they say they
couldn't ride without it!!!!

I'm working on a home-brew controller that's similar, only it leans. Should
be the cat's meow!

for more info on SBK2001 check out www.edhidden.com/sbk/ We are trying to
build a little web community for the game! The competition in the offline
competition is going really well and fairly close!!!

Enjoy.
