N2002, paintshop ?

by Olav Malmi » Sat, 04 May 2002 17:22:53

After spending a hour or three to get my RASCAR car done I thought the
following:

Wouldn't it be great with a standalone windows application to preview
the car texture on the car shape without having to load N2002 all the
time ? I run N2002 in OpenGL and then it wont support application
switching, so I had quite a hassle to get the ratio on the rear panel
and bonnet correctly. Anyone know the ratio between the PSP template
and the actual texture on the car ? :)

There *is* a free utility to do just that (view 2002 cars in 3d without
having to load the game), but I don't recall the website.  Someone here
might know the URL, or you can find out what it is on either Team
Lightspeed or the Sierra NR2002 discussion forums.

Great util. What *I* need though is to be able to paint directly onto a 3d
model... can't get my head round the 2d maps at all!

There are some fairly bizarre traits that you have to get used to.

1) The rear panel shrinks and grows on the vertical plane depending on
what part we're talking about.  The vertical surface of the bumper
shrinks, and the vertical surface of the taillight panel grows.

2) The hood area grows along the vertical place by about 20%.

3) Use the guide layer (supplied in all of Brian Simpon's templates) to
align lines and decals.  It makes things much easier.

4) Learn about layers.

So i've noticed :)

Ah, didn't know about that layer, even if I do use Mr. Simpson's templates.

Yup, both raster and vector layers are used.

Thanks for the pointers. I really need to sit down and *work* at doing a
car instead of just messing about. But I always end up starting then
thinking, "hang on... I could be racing instead of painting a car nobody
will see most of the time!" :o)

LOL, that sounds like something John Simmons would love to paint if you
ask me, well, maybe not the flag bit...:-)
