ICR2 Win95 - Paintshop brings up errors

by Mark Gil » Fri, 03 Jan 1997 04:00:00

I'm new to the newsgroup, so apologies if this is old news...
(I've checked the FAQ)

I'm having major problems with the ICR2 Win95 Paintshop.  The programme
repeatedly brings up Invalid Page faults (in paintshop.exe) and
exceptions (in kernel.dll).  So far all the things Sierra tech support
have suggested I try have failed (e.g. bootdisk, change screen
resolution, check CD surface, disable screensavers/wallpaper, reduce
graphics acceleration, and other general memory saving tricks).  The
paintshop looks great, but I just cannot run it for more than a few
minutes before it brings up an error and shuts down.

My system is pretty standard:
Intel P133, 16mB memory, PCI graphics card, Creative Labs Soundblaster
Pro.

I was wondering if anyone else has had similar problems (or even if this
is another bug)?  Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

Well it would have been in the FAQ, but I don't recall anyone else
complaining about it.  However, it happened to me all the time.  The
paintshop was about the only real nice thing in the Win95 version (as
far as I was concerned).  But, I decided the hell with it and scrapped
the Win95 version and went back to straight DOS version 1.02. I just
couldn't get the paintshop to be stable.  Is it a bug, you bet it is!
The paintshop acted like it was a win3.x program pretending to be a
Win95 proggy, but just couldn't hack it.

How about it folks.  Is this an issue with the rest of you Win95'ers?

Thanks for the info, Michael!  Yes, I agree with you that the paintshop
is about the only good bit of the Win95 version - and that's what I
wanted the version for: a nice paintkit with a cursor that paints the
pixels you tell it to (not the ones next door), and gives a preview so
you don't have to forever load up the full sim to check things line up
on the sidepods etc.  Oh well, it wouldn't be like Papyrus to get a
paintkit working correctly first time!  I kind of wonder what machines
they playtest these things on...

Thanks again!
