N2 "fixed" Palette Help w/Paintshop

by an.. » Mon, 30 Dec 1996 04:00:00

I know this is ignorant but hopefully some of the more experienced
people making cars in Nascar2 can bear with me:

After making the stupid mistake of printing out instructions on using
the "fixed" palettes for Paintshop pro from 4 different web sites.
(everyone seems to have a different method :)  I have myself totally
frustrated. My fault for looking at a few different ways of doing it.

I would *LIKE* to use the templates from IWCCCARS to make my cars
with.along with either Paintshop Pro 3.x or Paintshop Pro 4.x

But no matter what palette files I've downloaded from many generous
users I can't get past this corrupt palette thing.  Is there not just
a ready to go palette that will work with paintshop without all the
"cutting and pasting" I keep reading about? If not so be it, anyone
got an "idiot" version of what needs to be done?

I painted well over 30 cars for NASCAR with the old simple palette
fix. Without a hitch!. In some ways I am going to miss the old version
:-).

Thanks in advance...

Andy A.

Don't load the palette into the actual car, just use it on the graphics
you're importing.

As one of those who probably contributed to your confusion, let me try to
help. Here's how I do it, and it works perfectly every time:

1. Load one of the IWCCCARS templates or a car freshly exported from N2
2. Make a copy of the car
3. Paint the copied image
4. Load the NASCAR2.PAL file from Chris Fredericks' Racing HQ

Here's where you avoid the corrupted palette problem:

5. Copy just the car (inside the magenta border)
6. Paste the car back to the original image
7. Save the original image as XTPLAYE.PCX (or appropriate filename)

David, this may sound really stupid on my part, but why hasn't someone
just saved off a new palette and posted it on a web site, in place of
the old one?  that way steps 5-7 don't have to happen anymore?
