Voodoo2 and GPL ???

by grbar.. » Sun, 10 May 1998 04:00:00

Hi all,

Just a quick question, would two Voodoo 2 cards in SLI mode help
GPL ? I have a PII 300 with 128 meg of ram  an STB volocity 128  AGP
and a CL Voodoo2 12 meg card. I am hooked on GPL and want to play
it with the best frame rate and graphics quality that I can. I will of
course be playing other games as well, Flight Sims and Quake2,Unreal
and that sort of thing.

Thanks,
George

Two Voodoo2 cards in SLI mode basically allow you greater screen
resolution, but no real speed enhancement.  If I remember correctly,  in
SLI mode your video screen is "interlaced" between the two cards, but
they both share the same texture mapping.

If your system isnt running GPL smoothly you have a problem.
Not to bore you,but my Rhino 15/AMD k6-233/64 meg sdram/
Ati 8meg video/ Diamond monster runs GPL,GP2,F1 rs,Quake 2
Hexen,Hexen2 etc... perfectly.I mean smooth.I mean wow.
(In 800x600 resolution within the games and windows....)
Your system should smoke the current batch of games.
Good Luck
See you in turn 1
RAM

Not exactly so ... check out http://www.fastgraphics.com/clv2review.html
In theory, all fillrate limited games should get double the frame rate
compared to one Voodoo2 board, But then again, all CPU limited games will
not see a performance gain.

 George,
I bought an 8meg Hercules Thriller 3d AGP just for GPL (dumped the
Riva 128 powered Diamond V330 AGP.) You know GPL is Rendition native so it
supports anti-aliasing and looks awesome at 800x600. If the STB is getting
a little long in the tooth, think about it. Paired up with the Creative
Labs card, you would have a pretty smokin' combo. All the best, Mike

Damn your picky, you should be having awesome frame rates with that setup, I
can't notice any slowdown with my p2-266, stb velocity 128a and creative
labs voodoo2.  I thought it was awesome already.  Do you have hardware
acceleration turned on?
