A few GPL questions

by Griffin Che » Thu, 27 Nov 2003 12:04:47

I am still learning to run GPL after all these years, it is fun, even
I am not prepared to go racing (shame). I am wondering the following:

1. I am using the old LWFF. Would a shifter increase the fun level?

2. In conjunction to a shifter, I am thinking about a clutch, too.
Would it help to make the experience better? But I am using CH
ProPedal, what choice(s) do I have currently?

3. If I am not mistaken, I find there are at least 2 implementations
of Le Mans, which one should I try?

4. I know there is an invaluable tool over the web called "GPL Replay
Analyser". I am not sure how it could improve my driving skill. Is
there any help out there?

5. I know there is a track for Macau for GP3 and it fits GPL well.
However, I am too dumb to convert it to GPL. If there is any
kind-hearted, talented people, it would be the most appreciated.

Griffin.

GPL analyzer is a great way to improve your lap times.  Load up a replay of
your own and compare it with one of the replays that comes with the game, or
one you find online.  Then you use the telemetry window to see where you are
slower and then use the track view to compare the line you took at the slow
points.  If you are slower everywhere it usually comes down to the corner
exits.  Anyway, helps a lot.

Using the Act-Labs Shifter really increase my fun level with GPL and Nascar.
After 1.5 years I needed to bend back the metal blades used to click the
shifter buttons. Now at 2.5 years I had to clean the button and ordered new
ones from Act-Labs because two of them are not working properly.
Other than that, it supported all the abuse it got.

I'm using a button on my Momo wheel for the clutch. Using a pedal for clutch
would probably be much more natural but I've heard of lots of spring
breaking on the Act-Labs 3 pedals kit.

If you can afford it, the shifter is a very nice gadget...

Depends on what you want...

There is Le Mans Bugatti - which is the configuration that was used for the
F1 Grand Prix in 1967.  I believe some drivers of the time labeled it
"mickey mouse".

And then there is Le Mans Sarthe - The configuration that was used for the
Le Mans 24 Hours of 1967.  It's got that really lonnnnnnng Mulsanne
straight.

I've not driven Bugatti, but I think Sarthe is great.

One more:

6. Is there anyway to get framerate past the ceiling (36 fps, iirc)?
No, it is not that the sense of speed is not true -- actually, it is
really thrilling! :)

No, 36 is the limit.  The physics and netcode all work off the max of
36fps.  So getting a constant 36fps is a critical step.
