NFS problem

I have weird problem with Need for Speed: Game loads fine, but when
I'm sitting in the car and trying to accelerate, the speed doesn't get
higher than about 40mph and dies completely in when ascending a hill. The car doesn't move at all, if I dont push the gas hard in neutral before changing to first gear. And it's not the handbrake!

Hardware configuration: Cyrix P166+, 16EDO RAM, Jamicon motherboard,
S3 Trio64V+ 2Mb EDO RAM, Quantum Bigfoot, MAD 16 Pro, Thrustmaster GP1
(I have tried keyboard,too).

What could be the reason to this odd behaviour?

I've had similar problems with my T1/T2. You can get around it by
not pressing the pedals all the way down during calibration. A
better fix, however, is to buy some potentiometer cleaner (I bought
some at Radio Shack, it was sold as "TV Tuner Cleaner") and spray
some in the pedal pots. Mine works like new now.
