F12001 : ActLabs Pedals

Hi Folks,

I have just got an older ActLabs wheel via ebay.  I cant seem to get it to
work properly with F1 2001.  The wheel works ok, with pretty good FF.  The
accelerator works fine, with a fairly variable range.  But the brakes, eeek!
I press the brake and I get hardly anything at all then about half way down
the travel I get FULL brakes.  Anyone know whats going on?  I have tried
several different sensitivity settings and nothing seems to work.  As
always, it works perfectly in GPL (although I am not used to it at all yet).

Thanks for the help
Ash

I have the same problem Ash and no matter what I tried, I couldn't get
rid of the major deadzone. People with different wheels have this
problem (I with my Momo, DGF with his Guillemot, you with the ACT) so
I think we can state by now that it's a B-U-G in F1 2001.
The only solution is to set your pedals to single axis which sucks :-/

Bah,  it worked pretty well with my MSFF, I may try to put both on and
attempt that, Its a pity :(.  I see there is a job at ISI going, perhaps
i'll apply and fix it myself :)

Thanks Richard, I'll give it a go!

All the best,

I have an MSFF gameport version, but I'm sure this will work for any other
controllers with the same problem.

I have set the pedals to split axes, but then F1 2001 has a huge deadzone on
the pedals - the wheel is fine. The pedals don't do anything until they are
50% depressed.

Well, I say deadzone, but actually it's not. I used the deadzone tweaker and
it made no difference. Anyway, if it was a deadzone problem, why is the
wheel OK?

I ran DXTweak, and found that the pedals sit at a value of 63, and this
reduces to 0 as they are pressed.

After a bit of fiddling, I adjusted the centre value to be 62, and the
pedals now work perfectly over their entire range.

So, the rule seems to be: set the center value for each pedal to be one
value away from the value you get when the pedals are not pressed. I.e. if
the range is 0 -> 100, set the centre at 1, if it's 63 -> 0, set the centre
to 62.

Doesn't that tweak then apply to all controllers?  I'm concerned that I
might mess up some of my flight sims by doing that.

About that 50% thing: I have noticed that whenever I enter the game
controller settings (MOMO), both pedals are set at 50% in the graphical
display. But as soon as I touch the pedal, it snaps back to zero and you can
start calibrating (0%-100%). So maybe - if you're not doing that already -
you should calibrate everytime to shake off the '50%-bug'? (I always
calibrate after plugging in the wheel and a clean startup, and never had any
problems with the MOMO in WinXP)
