I'm well aware of the problems with the pedals on the WFF and the non-FF
version.  Setting that aside (if possible), has anyone used the non-FF
version on GPL?  I don't own any other racing game (and I don't see Sierra
making a FF patch for GPL), so I'm leaning towards the non-FF wheel - but I
don't know anyone who's tried one!

Thanks.

Oh yeah, btw: I'm using Win95 - so USB support doesn't matter to me.

The Logi non-FF wheel was my favourite after having tried it out in a store.
I thought the pedals looked a little chintzy, but the wheel was soooo smooth
and wonderful (I am used to a Nascar Pro).

Then I actually used one on my system.  The light-touch wheel became more
and more of an annoyance in GPL.  I found that the initial wonderful feel
had turned into something that felt completely lifeless.  Some people have
tightened the springs in the steering, so that may help.

The base for the pedals is great...why can't others do this?  No slippage
and comfortable.  The pedals themselves, though, are hopeless for GPL and
not very good even for a game that requires much less accuracy.  I don't
mind the light touch, but there is just way too little travel.

The Logi is the only wheel I can find that won't jitter on a piece-of-shit
CL SB PCI 128 game port...but luckily I am soon dumping the 128.  The Logi
calibrated rock solid, first time out.

The switch from separate to combined pedals--done in the software--is
great!!!!

Overall though, I can't use it for GPL, so it's a no-go.

Marc.

Yup.  I've got one.  Highly recommend it, especially at the price point.  I
went through several wheels before settling in with the WF.  You can read my
take on them, and get some mod how-to's at:

I graduated to a Saitek FF R4 wheel and pedals.  The wheel is great but the
pedals are lousy with too short a stroke.  I am going back to my
Thrustmaster T2 wheel and pedals.  Those pedals are great with GPL because
of the long stroke.  You can play the brakes well with them without locking
up all the time.

Logitech use an analog/digital converter on their wheels that nukes the pot
noise, which is why the calibration is so stable.  It does give the wheel a
more damped feel than some of the jittery ones I've used, though.

I increased the rotation to 270 degrees AND tightened the springs, both easy to
do, and detailed in how-to's on Alison Hine's site. (or just email me) But I've
read of people reducing the spring tension as well, so that seems to be a
preference item.  The greater rotation does help a lot with precision in GPL.
With both mods, it's a different wheel.

for a game that requires much less accuracy.<<

They COULD be better.  Stiffer springs do help, or you can just substitute your
faves, as I did with my trusty CH's, both mods again easy and covered in the
how-to's.  Still, I liked them better than the TM ones right off;  preference
again, I guess.
If you're willing to undertake some easy, documented, and free or nearly so,
mods, it's a great setup for the price, and well worth the effort of tweaking
it.

Is this card _really_ that bad?

If so, what is the best card to use.  Is the SB live better?

I have the SB128, and I"m getting paranoid :)
