I have my custom paint car selected as my car when online racing N3. How can I
tell what my actual car # is in the race? Thanks

Well that's the one big flaw in the user cars option. There is no SURE way
to know what each and every other entrant sees you as if they don't have
your car.
First thing you can try is watch the replay window when you enter a race and
most times you'll see the multi car you are assigned for a split second
before it changes to your paint job. I think the majority of those that
don't have your car will see you as that.

Then of course you can ask what others see you as in chat also.

Best thing is to just use names when trying to get someones attention.
Things get really confusing when people start spouting out numbers only.

There's a way around this, not ideal, but you'll have a better idea of who
your competitors see you as.  When you go into multiplayer you have to enter
your screen name and a car file name.  When you join a race, the other pc's
attached look for your car file name in their "CARS" folder.  When they
don't find it, they assign you a car file from their "MULTI" list.  Let's
say you made an 18 car and your car file is called "dad618.car", no one is
going to have that on their pc and they'll all probably see something
different.

Now let's say you make a copy of your car, name the file "f99_118.car"
(which will replace one of the fantasy cars that came with the game), and
sign on with that car when you go into multiplayer.  Everyone will have that
file in their "CARS" folder and everyone will see you as the 118 car.
They'll all see you as the green Mike Maiers Rab-O-Tec car, but at least
when the chat shows "HEY 118, STAY OUT OF MY FENDERS!!!" you'll know they're
talking to you.

If your car # is any of the ones that came on the CD (like 18), you could
also replace the "c99_18" car with a copy of yours and most everyone will
see you as the Labonte car, #18.
