Someone mentioned to me the other day that they seen or heard about a
printed sim racing magazine.  Anyone know if this exists?

arrives in the mail.  And what would my mailman think???

I was a "founding subscriber", got a life-time subscription.  I don't think
those are available any longer, but I'm not sure.

The magazine is excellent and this sim community can do a lot to help itself
by helping Michael Latham and the staff HCSR make it a success.  Having a
"real-world racing rag" of our own, validates sim racing as a real
hobby/Esport or what ever term you want to use.  It is published bi-monthly
(6 issues per year) and the second issue just hit the newsstands.  Info for
subscribing is on the website that Schooner posted above.

If nothing else, maybe your family who thinks you spend too much time sim
racing - i.e., "playing games on your computer" will be impressed that your
"hobby" is represented now by a real-world magazine? ....lol...  Funny...but
maybe not so funny, huh?

Regards,

Tom

Typically how many articles does it have and how thick a magazine is it?

Well I may just subscribe to help out, despite the fact Tom thinks it's good
too ;)

Lol....good one, Schooner....

TP

PS:  Okay, I hate this magazine.  Its a completely useless piece of dribble
and you could learn more about sim racing by going to David Powell's website
than you can be reading and subscribing to HCSR!  There.....now go get your
own issue!  -:)

Dave...

You still have a wife?  Wow......you have not been sim racing enough,
apparently.  Most of us got rid or our wives back in the TEN days!  Don't
want no skirts*** around cutting into my sim racing time, you know?
You should do what Wilshe and I do..............we import a $200 "pit babe"
once a month......to sim race with, of course!  -:)

Tom

PS:  I heard Wilshe was getting so old, fat and ugly.....he's having to pay
$400 now for a $25 pit babe!  Could just be a rumor, though.

I get it now. It's not too bad for a small operation. The first two
issues are out and they were pretty informative in some ways and
repetitive in area that I already knew about.

This month has info on sim seating (cockpits), part 2 of GPL track
building, short article on West Bros. Racing Legends and an interview
with a race driver (Chris O'brien) among other topics. 26 color pages
total.

LOL! Actually, the two I have received thus far have come in large
envelopes. Made me wonder the first time if the material was suitable for
minors :) It was.

As for material, it is ok, it is better than nothing or *** mags that
will give racing sim titles a small box on 1 page each issue and so far as I
can tell, will not be of any interest to the console game crowd (rightly so
IMHO). It is a little thin but is brand new so I expect it to grow if it
makes it. The articles thus far have been pretty good, the interview with
Dave Thomas in issue 1 was enlightening, the ongoing GPL tutorial thingy
appears cool. How to make a track seems ok, but I am not into it.

My only gripes are minor and few: The editor writes his editorial almost
like a post to a newsgroup (full of contractions and sidebars in
parenthesis, just like this one) and I don't find that it appears very
professional as a result. The other gripe is the picture quality, a lot of
the images have jagged edges like JPGs were sent to the printers instead of
print ready artwork that appear in 'regular' magazines.

But be aware: Tom Pabst is a contributing writer to the mag for those of you
out there that may have something against him. LOL! Couldn't resist TP. I
applaud the effort of the team trying to make this thing go.

Tom Pabst is a contributing writer and it is "a little thin"?  How could
this be?  There must be some heavy editing going on thank god. ;-)

SR...

I didn't know I was a "contributing writer" until I saw my name in the last
issue.  It was "news" to me......no pun intended.
