A reminder about RACE RESULTS

by Dave Henri » Mon, 19 Mar 2001 16:37:40

Please keep all mentions of race results and winners INSIDE your
messages.  Don't use the SUBJECT line to announce to the world
that "so and so won the race."
Thanks...you're co-operation will be appreciated my many who can't
see a paticular race when you do.
If you do post about a race...make sure you give some warning
in the subject line so that users can AVOID your message until
they have had a chance to view the race.

Of course those who havn't seen the race could maybe use their common sense
(assuming they have any) and avoid reading newsgroups and forums concerned
with motorsport until they have seen the race.

I'm sure most of us are aware that not everyone sees the race live and will
avoid mentioning the results.  There are many people who may be new to
Usenet or infrequent users and they may not be aware of this.

First off, there shouldn't be any frigging "real life" race reports in
here to begin with. It'd be fine with me if we started blasting people
who even brought the topics up. Unfortunately, you can also go to the
flight sim or Quake newsgroups and end up seeing NASCAR or F1 race
results. You really can't avoid them.

All Dave is asking for is NO RESULTS IN THE HEADER. In ANY newgroup
dedicated to racing, this is a common courtesy.
It doesn't deny anyone of their right to post or to read the race
results, it just allows you to still read the group and skip over
posts which will spoil the outcome if you can't catch the race live.

Every time some jerk-off posts the outcome of a race in the header and
is confronted about it, they get all indignant and act like we're
trying to steal their right to free speech, just like that putz who
puts MCSE after his name did.

How about "Real life" Sim racing reports ;-) Every now and then there
would be someone(s) posting results, articles, ec.. about a league race here
in RAS.  I kind of miss those.

The Zero Gee News is a Sim racing news letter posting such articles and
is open for any league to post their articles.  Just recently they started
posting for CORS N4 league as well..  So... If your league has race reports
or stories, The ZGN is the perfect place for them.

Hey, I apologized for that, more than once.  And I made it a point today to
stay away from the computer so I wouldn't be tempted to do it again.  And if
you refer to me as "putz" again, then we'll see who the true putz is.

You did apologize...no more complaints from me...I started this thread to
head off any other mistakes over the weekend...I hopefully will remember and
repeat this as a new thread next week.  We all learn and move on...have
fun.

If you don't want to know who won, don't come in...after a 12 hour

I was under the impression that this is an *** forum, which should be
devoid of name calling.  But since you apparently cannot restrain from doing
so, you will be added to my very meager killfile.  In fact, you're the first
entry.

I'm pretty obnoxious, and that whole "see who the putz is" thing was
really too much for me to resist. I had to see what was going to
happen to me.

You won't see this since I'm kill-filed, but maybe you'll see this
excerpted in someone elses reply.
I'm sorry, and I didn't think you were a regular reader of the
newsgroup.

Ok I have a confession to make....I started this thread for the
benefit of others....I MYSELF get more enjoyment on HOW
a race was won..not who..So even if I know somebody
has won...I am still facinated by how he came from way back
or unlapped himself...like that...
But...I will repeat this thread each Friday or saturday in an
attempt to keep others from making a careless mistake.  We
don't need more putz's around here :)

Since I didn't get a chance to start my killfile, I did get to see this.
I'm obnoxious also, and have been an off and on reader of this newsgroup for
years.  Just ask Don Wilshe about our lengthy discussions about MPlayer,
Burnout, and why it took so damn long to get working.

Anyway, I accept your apology and therefore won't start my killfile with
your name.  :)

It's hard to be obnoxious in usenet without offending someone along the way.
I do it myself enough.

Russ
